.com Understood in any language, across any time zone, Global Communication tolls for the human spirit which knows no boundaries. As one of the most significant releases to cross the ambient currents of the '90s, 76:14 places itself alongside benchmark electronic releases from Brian Eno, the Orb, and the Future Sound of London. These synth-dominated ventures allow the armchair traveler to indulge in atmospheric wanderings which suggest virtual galactic discovery. But often enough the textured beats keep things grounded to dissuade the listener from being lost in the void. Vocal samples from nine languages also remind us of the international and diplomatic intentions of this otherwise electro-instrumental album. Strap in and enjoy the liftoff for all mankind. --Lucas Hilber

A Jewel in the Pile
I must apologize. I had blinders on. I thought that Tangerine Dream, Biosphere, John Serrie, Robert Rich and Steve Roach were the only ambient kids on the block worth listening to. Wrong. Upon Amazon.com's "Customers who bought Biosphere also listened to:" recommendation, 76:14 popped up, and I thought yeah, yeah the usual guys trying to make it big. And then I gave it a listen with the sample tracks, and I thought, Wow! Just when I thought I had my ambient selections nailed down.76:14 is a compilation by Dedicated that is nothing short of glorious. Smooth, flowing synthesized rhythm's peppered with deep, reverberating pings instill a wonderful sense of openness, of the vast expanses of space or a wide open field. This is just what I am looking for after a hard day, because it helps me to relax, daydream a little and inspire me while I write. There is a perfect mix of laid back, long segments not unlike Chuck Wild's "Liquid Mind" series (which I highly recommend, by the way: IV [Unity] and VI [Spirit]), followed by mellow but solid club mixes with tinges of hip-hop beats, then an excellent surge of sonic crescendos in major chord ranges of the middle octaves. The tracks on 76:14 are humbly named only by the length of their duration, hence Track One is "4:02," Track Two is "14:31" and so on up to Track Nine, "12:18". I consider this the single best ambient recording ever made, just for its brilliant variations and technical proficiency without "too many notes." This album just bumped Biosphere's "Substrata" (1997) and all my favorites by Steve Roach ("Dreamtime Return"; 1988) down another notch. Variety, quality and replayability are what set 76:14 apart, and make it a definite keeper. I just got a new anchor.I suppose, since music like this is so hard to describe sometimes, that if you took the best work of the artists I previously mentioned, you'd have this album. It sounds so much like Tangerine Dream's older work, yet not too much, blended very nicely with a little Biosphere, Steve Roach and a twist of Kevin Braheny, with a dash of Robert Rich and a tinge of Patrick O'Hearn. I could definitely hear a little Klaus Schulze in the mix. But to say that 76:14 is a copycat album is just off the mark. This great ambient recording truly makes me feel that I am in the 21st century, and not stuck in the same commercial tinkly-winkly crankings-out of the 1980's. Nice. Very nice.

This has got to be THE coolest ambient album EVER - words cannot describe how awesome this is!
Wow...wow wow wow wow...I've heard a LOT of albums (over 3,000), but this one is INCREDIBLE. It's true that I only have a small amount of ambient albums (The Orb, Orbital, Mouse On Mars, Biosphere, Aphex Twin, Colleen, DJ Wally, etc...), but this one is just so ridiculously good I can't even come up with the right words to praise it. It's definitely an ambient album, but it's more of an experience then anything else - it feels like you're in another world when you're listening to this. The production here is amazing - obviously I have no idea how to describe the electronic blips and bloops, but they're all very high quality, fun and interesting to pay attention to. It's an audio journey like no other. I suppose you could say it's ambient music with some house mixed in, but essentially it's just a great "chill-out" album to groove to. When it comes to this kind of music there isn't much else you can say about it, really. If you like ambient music in the slightest then "76:14" will probably be the best darn ambient album you ever get! Absolutely recommended!Highlights include:the entire album!

Interesting and Inventive
The creators of this CD asked for feedback in the CD booklet. Artistically the concept is refreshingly inventive. The numbering of the songs rather than assigning titles to them is interesting, and it does, as they suggest, free one from "predeciding" the vibes. There are ten songs, yet only one that I will listen to again. Song #3 which is titled 9:25, apparently for its length. It is melodic and well done. The rest of the CD reveals a lot of terrifically creative ideas, but there is an element of annoying repetitiveness in the song loops that becomes tiresome and even irritating after a while. Perhaps if they shortened the length of the songs this would be less problematic for me at least. Specific examples of this aspect are: Song #2 14:31 and Song #10 12:18 where the initial attack on the synth male voices is too hard and does not vary with each ensuing loop of it. I have listened to this CD while driving and while seated in my recording studio both while using headphones and without them. I am still unclear as to what they are trying to convey with this concept. However, I do appreciate the quality of musicianship in this effort.

Great for listening and concentrating
I first heard one of the tracks from this cd on the Sirius/XM station Chill. I looked it up on the internet and found that it is one of the best ambient recordings of all time. I didn't know what ambient music is but the price was right, $3.99, so decided to buy it. I played it and was fascinated. Normally when writing I cannot have any distractions around me. However, I've found that I can write while listening to this cd with ear buds in. In fact, I'm quite focused when I listen to this cd; it removes all of the distractions.I really like this cd and would recommend it to anybody who likes or is interested in ambient music

Not the classic I was hoping for
Somehow this album slipped past me over the years. I finally discovered it through a remix on SomaFM's Groove Salad. When I looked it up, it had phenomenal reviews, so I was really excited to get a quality album I'd missed out on. I get that it would no longer sound groundbreaking after so many years and similar albums, unfortunately, it just didn't grab me. On top of that, two tracks are virtually identical, and they sounded a lot like Tangerine Dream's classic Love on a Real Train. I really don't get what the big deal is about this album, I guess you had to be there.

Incredible
This is a very influential work in electronic music, and if you listen to this you will hear why. This is 76 minutes and 14 seconds (hence the title) of the most profoundly chill-out ambient that has been put together on one album. When you first play this, make sure you have the time to simply sit, relax, and _listen_ to it. I recommend listening to this in a darkened room, or when driving in the middle of nowhere at night. Something about it, it draws you in, and you'll listen to the end.

Interesting and somewhat derivative
This is a very pleasant and easy to listen to collection of electronic soundscapes. The first track, called 4:02 seems to be inspired by Wendy (then Walter) Carlos' work on the sound track for A Clockwork Orange. Track seven, called 8:07 (Maiden Voyage) and track 8, 5:23 (Maiden Voyage) could easily fit in with Tangerine Dream's song list. Parts of additional tracks reference other electronic artists (Eno for certain) and for a while it seems that the music may emerge into EDM, but it never quite goes there. While there is a derivative quality to some tracks I never found that disturbing. More than anything it seemed complimentary.Overall, I found this a very good listen. It's snappy and punchy at times and is beautifully drift-like at others. The quality of the CD pressing is excellent. My favorite cut is the final one, 12:18 which rolls over the listener like slow, warm waves. It relaxes and invigorates. Certainly 76:14 is well worth 76 minutes and 14 seconds it takes to absorb the entire CD.

(mein momentaner Gänsehaut-Schauer-über-den-Rücken-Favorit) entschwebt man endültig allem Irdischen.
