Product Description Warren Beatty and Annette Bening star in the incredible true story of Benjamin Bugsy Siegel, the playboy gangster who betrayed the Mob for love. A cold-blooded killer who dreamed of Hollywood stardom, a crazed patriot who plotted against Mussolini, and the brilliant visionary who carved Las Vegas out of the dry Nevada desert, Bugsy had it all. Until he fell for the one woman who wanted more. A critical masterpiece, BUGSY is a remarkable collaboration of Hollywood's best: director Barry Levinson, screenwriter James Toback, and an all-star supporting cast that includes Harvey Keitel, Oscar(r)-winner Ben Kingsley (Best Actor, Gandhi,1982), Joe Mantegna, and Elliott Gould. But at the center of itall is the white-hot romance between Bugsy and the insatiable starlet, Virginia Hill. .com Bugsy represents an almost miraculous combination of director, writer, and star on a project that represents a career highlight for everyone involved. It's one of the best American gangster movies ever made--as good in its own way as any of the Godfather films--and it's impossible to imagine anyone better than Beatty in the movie's flashy title role. As notorious mobster and Las Vegas visionary "Bugsy" Siegel, Beatty is perfectly cast as a man whose dreams are greater than his ability to realize them--or at least, greater than his ability to stay alive while making those dreams come true. With a glamorous Hollywood mistress (Annette Bening) who shares Bugsy's dream while pursuing her own upwardly mobile agenda, Bugsy seems oblivious to threats when he begins to spend too much of the mob's money on the creation of the Flamingo casino. Meyer Lansky (Ben Kingsley) and Mickey Cohen (Harvey Keitel) will support Bugsy's wild ambition to a point, after which all bets are off, and Bugsy's life hangs in the balance. From the obvious chemistry of Beatty and Bening (who met and later married off-screen) to the sumptuous reproduction of 1940s Hollywood, every detail in this movie feels impeccably right. Beatty is simply mesmerizing as the man who invented Las Vegas but never saw it thrive, moving from infectious idealism to brutal violence in the blink of an eye. Director Barry Levinson is also in peak form here, guiding the stylish story with a subtle balance of admiration and horror; we can catch Bugsy's Vegas fever and root for the gangster's success, but we know he'll get what he deserves. We might wish that Bugsy had lived to see his dream turn into a booming oasis, but the movie doesn't suggest that we should shed any tears. --Jeff Shannon Bugsy: Extended Cut special features Anyone who's heard how intense (or perhaps the word is "torturous") it can be to make a film with Warren Beatty will be captivated by the behind-the-scenes extras on the Bugsy: Extended Cut DVD. The highlight is the chat among screenwriter James Toback, director Barry Levinson, and star and co-producer Beatty on how the project and the final film came to be. Tellingly, Beatty is sitting quite apart from the other two, though they're in a semi-circular banquette at Perino's in Los Angeles. The conversation starts out slowly, with Toback, a genial blowhard, talking about losing the original script, but it picks up steam when the topic turns to the casting of the excellent actors in the film, including Sir Ben Kingsley and Elliott Gould, who also participate. And of course the most interesting off-screen component of the project--Beatty meeting his future wife, costar Annette Bening--is given a fun spotlight in the film. Levinson remembers that after meeting Bening for the first time, Beatty called him enthusiastically saying, "She's great, I love her, I'm going to marry her" ("you know, just a throwaway line," Levinson says, laughing), and Toback and Levinson and Bening herself talk about the signs the two were slowly falling in love. It's as dishy as anything you're likely to see about the notoriously private Beatty, and well worth the investment. Other extras include several deleted scenes that are now included in the film (and unlike many other "extended cut" releases, actually enhance the depth of the story). One is a harrowing scene in which Bugsy contemplates, and nearly commits, suicide, via Russian roulette. Another is an amusing screen test that Siegal takes, thinking his roguish charm will translate to the big screen. Though it takes Beatty's considerable talents to make that happen, the earnestness of Siegal's outsider character is touching in glimpses like this. --A.T. A TRUE MASTERPIECE GANGSTER LOVESTORY
I've watched this film about 30 times. This is my hidden best film of all times next to <Time of the Gypsies> and <Double life of Veronique>.Also I feel like it is sometimes even better then the <Godfather trilogy> in some way.It has more passion in acting, good lighting, camerawork, great music by Ennio Morricone, and above all unforgettable ending. As everybody knows Bugsy is the one who discovers the Las Vegas and build the first casino hotel there and named it a flaminco. It is still there in Las Vegas although it is running by a different guy now.Bugsy<Warren Beatty> is a guy who is very quixotic, idealistic guy who does not interested much about money. He is rather interested in making or doing something that is not tengible but something that can be something to be hailed in the future. Also his moto is Everyone needs a second chance and anyone can be changed. That's what he believed about Vigrinia<Annete Benning> who everybody think is a whole who hangs aroung with anything that move.He is also very sanguine and if he is mad, no one can stop him. He can kill anyone, I, men anyone that he wants. He has no fear at all.But when he got an eye on Virginia<Annete Benning>, he gave up anything and spends everything to have her. Time, money and even his reputaion and his neck.Virginia<Annete Benning> found out he really loves her and for the first time she changed herself and falls into him. She even gives up the stolen money and comes back to him when he was about to fly to LA when he has trouble building LAS VEGAS bacause of lack of money. When Bugsy<Warren Beatty> was murdered, she returnes all the stolen money to Meyer Lansky<Ben Kingsley>, Busy's true friend who tried to protect Busy from being murder, and she killed herself in Europe. There are so many beautiful shots in this movie and the most beautiful moment I remember was when Virginia<Annete Benning> first visits to Bugsy<Warren Beatty>'s new house in LA and when he was watching a pantomime through the film projected through the screen, When two of them are behind the screen the light from the projector enlights two of them and make them look like shadow animation and when they kiss with each other with the most beautiful music composed by Ennio Morriocone, that was the most enchantng moment from the movie that I can never forget. They were fighting and talking with each other saying if this relationship goes on, there will be nothing but pain and angony. And Busy says there will be a fresh start and we will be ok, something like that which will not be it at the end.As time goes by, Virginia<Annete Benning> slowley becomes like Bugsy<Warren Beatty> and when Bugsy was in a prison for a short time and Virginia was taking care of the construction area in Las Vegas, Meyer Lansky<Ben Kingsley> visits and says you are becomming more like Bugsy everyday. She sure does. She talks like him and acts like him. This movie is about love and the idealist's sad ending. It's a beautiful sad tragedy and when I saw THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS winning the OSCAR over this movie, I was so angry that I couldn't even sleep. I remember that day so well. This movie should have won at least 10 Oscar.THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS was just a boxoffice his movie. This movie on the other hand should be remember forever. It is a true masterpiece.

Jewish Gangster .... Legend .... Shalom .... ****
I had seen this movie more than a decade ago on cable... To be honest it's pretty good and I give praise to the crew for molding it ..into a vintage era biographical movie. Warren Beatty you can't help but adore him... such a handsome man ....! I recall seeing him in movies ..and just thinking to myself.. "What a thing of BEAUTY".... Yes he's the brother of actress Shirley McClain ... what I would like to know is who does he inherit his s*x appeal from ? Anette Bening ..was so goddess like in this movie ... She's pulled off the perfect Virginia Hill... Actress Diane Cannon played a similar movie with actor Harvey Keitel ...about the Hill & Siegel relationship in a movie years before this one came out. The late Benjamin Siegel ..was really ahead of his time... and he paid a price for what ever professional mistakes he may have made ... His daughter "Millicent Siegel" died in 2017 at the age of 86 years old ...was the spitting image of him... Virginia Hill died in 1966 ..leaving a son named Peter...this movie certainly had a who's..who from Central casting... Harvey Keitel,,Ben Kingsley,,Joe Mantegna,,Elliot Gould,,Bebe Neuwirth,,James Toback,,Bill Graham,,Wendi Malick,,Eric Christmas,,...So if your a nostalgia fan ..and you want to see a classic with some accuracy...I suggest this one.. Tell them that Clyde sent ya... (That's a nod from another Warren Beatty) golden oldie..

Unconvincing Acting.
Great story and photography, but the acting was not convincing (for a mob story) which ruined the movie's impact.

I have just watched this movie on my small pc, but enjoyed it so much that I bought a DVD from Amazon.ca. Although I don't consider Warren Beatty a great actor, I am a big fan of Annette Bening. She looks so beautiful in this movie. Beatty was a very lucky man to have her marry him!!!
