This bulb is identical in shape and size to the halogen bulb it replaces. When they are sitting on the countertop you cannot tell them apart. As another reviewer noted, since the exterior is glass it has the same "uplighting" effect in glass track lighting fixtures that a halogen bulb has.I have the old Lowe's Portfolio brand flexible track lighting system in my kitchen. A transformer finally blew and I got a second-party replacement (since the original transformer is no longer manufactured and cannot be had on eBay) which seems to be running a lot hotter than the old transformer. I decided to switch over to LED bulbs but have had a terrible time finding a bulb that was the same size (in height). Longer bulbs project too low in the glass fixture creating terrible glare in the eyes. Bulbs with plastic housings do not provide any side or uplighting through the fixture, which is important for light washing across the ceiling (losing the uplighting will dramatically change the effectiveness of a glass fixture).These bulbs are a perfect replacement and I would say an improvement over the halogens, and not just for energy efficiency. The light is cleaner and whiter without being harsh. These bulbs replaced 20 watt halogens so I will either have to decrease the number of fixtures or add a dimmer (more $$ but might be worth it).Note: if you replace all your halogen bulbs but keep the same transformer it will not feel enough current demand and the lights will blink. This is not the fault of the bulbs, okay? I have 3 LEDs and 2 halogens in at the moment to draw enough current and am awaiting my replacement LED transformers.I have no idea about longevity but since I have not found any other LEDs that even remotely work I am going to stock up and hopefully keep my track system going a good while longer.

If you need back lit MR16 bulbs, these are the ones. We have Golden yellow glass shades in our track light and previously could not find any LED bulb that lit tem up with back light. So they would appear black. But with these they are back lit beautifully again!

The media could not be loaded.  The light has a flicker to it. I bought 30 of thes bulbs planing to change out the entire house. But the flicker is bothersome to the eye and disturbing when working in the kitchen or trying to read. I tried them in different light cans in the home and then compared it to another brand. The other brand had no flicker. These are going back.
