Emotional and honest look at a wife betrayed
I loved the character of Kate and loved her young daughters, although they had some very real-life bratty moments at times. Kate was very relatable regarding both her personal life and professional life with both of their ups and downs. I started out wanting to give Adam the benefit of the doubt, however, that ship quickly sailed. Still, the author’s character development regarding Adam and the effect the guilt and regret had on him was amazing. I liked some issues that Lover brings up. First, it’s surprising how little we know about our significant others and is it possible that they could do such horrible things right under our noses. Second, affairs don’t always mean that the relationship is over, there are people that manage to get through these circumstances. Third, and most important, the spouse who is cheated on has every right to take their time to figure out if they want to and are able to work at rebuilding the relationship.Kate had great friends and the support of her parents throughout this novel, but the fact still remained that she discovered secrets about her husband that had a huge impact on her. Parenting is difficult enough but to suddenly be a single parent and working a very demanding job is incredibly challenging – and I think Kate rolled with the punches quite well. Anna Raverat did a beautiful job of demonstrating the ever-changing emotions and feelings of a woman recently separated from her husband and especially a woman that feels so betrayed. Kate had good days and bad days, and often there were just maybe a few good moments in any given day, but she carried on trying to determine what was best for her and her daughters. The writing style was amazing and flowed flawlessly, grabbing my attention but also prompting me to truly think and consider that events and emotions of the novel.Although not the most original or unique storyline out there, this was an excellent read that I highly recommend to fans of Women’s fiction. Especially for those that may have been betrayed by someone in the past.*Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

She has what she thinks as the perfect life. Two lovely adorable girls
Lover is a book about infidelity. The blurb was compelling to me and I wanted to read more.Kate is a wife, a mother and a working woman. She has what she thinks as the perfect life. Two lovely adorable girls, a loving husband and a promising career that she loves. Going through Adam’s, the husband, emails by accident, there is no limit to what she can find. And it’s only the iceberg. This book started out very promising. I even started reading it right away once I received it though I had a couple of other books on hand. However, midway through the book, it started to be a bit boring. We were trapped in Kate’s thoughts while nothing was really happening. Not to say that it was bad. However, not what I thought.Nevertheless, reading the book was enjoyable. The writing style was good. I even liked the ups and downs of Kate. Kate was even funny sometimes. The book was realistic and thoughtful. Finally, Lover was a nice read. The point to me was that the idea could have taken half the pages. I had read a similar book before, so to me that was not what I was looking for in the first place.** Special thanks to NetGalley & Sarah Crichton Books for supplying my copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review **

REALISTIC AND THOUGHTFUL
A broken heart? Perhaps. But hearts can be mended. It takes time - sometimes a lot of time. This story follows the life of Kate, a mother of two, who discovers her husband has been cheating. The narrative progresses in a realistic fashion as Kate goes through the anger, grief, and frustration that goes along with a marriage that's been broken. There's nothing earthshaking in this story, but it's a realistic and thoughtful read.

Borderline trite
Simple, borderline trite. I managed to finish it but skipped an awful lot of paragraphs in between. Not a thinking woman's novel. Maybe more of what the booksellers characterize as a "beach book."

quietly written with big themes and treats you like an intelligent reader capable of joining the dots.
what a beautifully written and understated book this is. it reveals the key points of the story in small snippets so rather than laying it all out at your feet, it treats you like an intelligent human being and trusts you to make all the coonections and pick up all the points. - refreshing to be gently led along rather tha wacked on the head.it is also quietly very funny and the 'supporting characters' from the two kids, mother, bookshop owner to the two gay guys with the very rude parrot also add a lot to the overall picture.her life as an executive in the hotel chain was also a very sly critique of the idicies of corporate life.as I write this, have upped my rating to five stars as it is a few dys since I finished this and it is only by writing about it and reflecting about it, that I realise fully just ho good it is - completely the opposite of most books which you finish and then are sent to oblivion

Hard to get into
Really struggled to get into this book, I kept trying, started from the beginning again, but haven't managed to get further than 40% in. This was recommended in a magazine so I gave it a go, but wish I hadn't.

Amazing book! Love it!
Amazing book that kept me up longer than I should have every time I picked it up. It has a different and very honest account of infidelity in this age and people's varying reactions to it. This is on top of a great insight into hotels and their management. Can't believe this is just her second book.

I liked it, not loved it
This is a strange story and meandered along at times. Almost like a chain of events the author happened to string together, but you know what? I really enjoyed reading about this particular marriage breakdown.

Good, but .....
Enjoyed the book, but sometimes it was a bit hard going as it seemed to go off at a tangent about what seemed like irrelevant detail
