The plastic wood grain base looks much better than I had anticipated. The unit came packaged extremely well and even had protective plastic wrap on the tubes to remove. It comes with everything you need, clock, usbc cable, plug in USB power source. This RGB clock has many settings that you can choose from with various modes, colors, etc. This allows you to customize the display quite a bit between the different modes along with colors and brightness. I am sure for some these many modes (one wit sound) are just what they are looking for. For me, I was looking for that traditional nixie tube look. The settings that worked for me (see picture) are as follows: Mode - Regular clock display Color - Set all of the tubes to amber Brightness - Set to level 1 (the default high level over saturates the display I think, and the low setting is only an issue when the sun is shining on it directly) I think these settings do a pretty good job of making it look a nixie tube clock.
