MG Chemicals SAC305 Unleaded Tip Tinner, (28g) 1 oz container, No Clean Formulation, Silver (4910-28G)

I bought this tinner/tip cleaner on a whim just to try it out, but it has quickly turned into a must-have for my soldering setup. You can of course clean and tin the old-fashioned way with a sponge and watching your tip oxidation manually, but this makes it dead simple -- just heat the tip and scrape -- instantly cleaned and tinned. If you're on a budget, then maybe pass on this, but if you can spare the cash, it makes soldering dead simple.

It seems a lot of people are having a really hard time opening this thing up , so in spite of my not so good english I have decided to write this review. I have found that taping the side rim against a solid object in a couple different spots and then twisting opens the can effortless every single time. In fact I think that's why the outer bulge is there: the cap stays tightly closed so the powder doesn't spills all over the place accidentally. If you tap the outer bulge against a solid object (like a wall) in a couple different spots it loosens the cap and it then opens with just a simple twist. Hope it helps.By the way, the product works really well.

I keep this right by my soldering station. It works great to quickly clean and tin a tip that's been abused. It works especially well on small tips such as the ones used to solder small electronics.While the top can sometimes be difficult to remove, especially from a new one, I didn't have any problem using channel locks to hold the bottom while I twisted the top off with my other hand. Once I had the top off, I used a small Phillips screwdriver to gently burnish the inside rim of the lid. Now the lid goes on and off easily with only light finger pressure.

This is definitely lead-free stuff.In order to get any decent cleaning, I had to bring the iron past 300C.I feel that there is a lack of sal ammoniac in this compound.My old RadioShack cleaner does a better job at lower temperatures. (But it's not RoHs complainant).So, for exceptionally oxidized tips, combine this with a block of Sal, perhaps?Unlike a lot of reviews to here the cap was very easy to come off... maybe they've improved the design.

I just recently started to learn how to solder. I did some research and found that this cleaner/tinner was highly rated. Since I was new at this I didn't want to take the chance of not cleaning the soldering iron well enough or not tinning it well enough. This stuff is easy to use. You simply put the tip in it and it comes out clean and shinny. Since it's a small amount and not particularly cheap I don't use it every time I clean the tip. I use a brass wire sponge and tin with solder but if the tip doesn't look clean enough I'll dip it into this and it comes our shiny. Then I dip it in this formula again before I put the iron away. I know there were some complaints about opening the can. I used a small precision screw driver and had no problem working the top off the can. I would recommend this to anyone and will get it again when it runs out.

SO FRUSTRATED! I tried all of the recommendations for opening......feels permanently sealed. Resorted to trying to drill it open. I don't believe it opens at all!!!!! Past my return time, very mad.

TL;DR This is a great product, recommended.This baby is awesome, saves me tons of time having to re-tin my soldering iron tip. It is indeed hard to open the first time, I used a sharp knife to open it (kids don't try this at home).Remember to clean your tip before tinning it, I forgot once and it created a really hard solder ball I had to remove rip out using some pliers.

Stuff works great. I took the lid off completely and affixed the bottom to my solder wand holder. The compound has gotten a little hard over time but when u jam a fully heated solder tip in there, that stuff melts and bubbles right up. Quit complaining about the lid - you don't even need it.

Over de inhoud van dit product kan ik geen recensie schrijven, aangezien de deksel met geen mogelijkheid te openen is. Ondanks het dagenlang geprobeerd te hebben ook door meerdere mensen lukt het niet en stuur ik het product retour. Ik had al een andere recensie gelezen over dit product met hetzelfde probleem maar waagde het er toch op. Helaas had ik dit dus niet moeten doen en raad het dan ook andere mensen niet aan om dit product te kopen.
