I am an amateur rock climber interested in pursuing ice climbing. This book presents an overview of the rudimentary knowledge necessary to become involved in ice climbing. I now know the necessary equipment, tactics, hidden dangers, and mountaineering concepts which will enable me to go on a trip with an experienced climber and attempt some basic ascents.

This is a excellent book for ANY ice climbers 'collection' of ice climbing books. Tho ice tools and crampons have changed considerably since it's publication (leashless radical ice tools), etc. it is still packed with useful information, tips, photo's, etc. that ANY ice climber can incorporate into their techniques! A great book for your collection!

I've been wanting to ice climb for quite some time now, i got this book as a gift, and it is wonderful. a great no bull guide to getting started, from gear to techniques. if you want to get into ice climbing BUY THIS BOOK.

An excellent resource for ice climbing! Concise and clear, provides all the essential knowledge. Also provides further references for subjects not covered. Great book.

Good in depth info but slightly dated now

I had heard that this was a great book from multiple sources, owning a copy now myself, I can attest to that. Excellent book, with clear descriptions, the fact that it remains a great book in spite of being a bit dated now is a testament to how well authored it is. Though some of the gear shown in it is now outdated, the technique portion still holds true and that alone is enough to justify buying this book, highly recommended.
