A must read for anyone considering a move to Thailand.
Great book. I am married to a Thai woman for 12 years and I love Guy finds a way to explain the complexities of East meets West in Thailand. When you read about someone else who has hit the land mines, struggled with the exact same issues, it reminds you that maybe you aren't the only one. Like Mr. Lilburne, I have fallen in love with Thailand. I did the first time I visited in 2005. I know his agony of waiting to retire and move to my adopted country. Thailand isn't for everyone and if you read this book you will be educated. This book is a must read for anyone considering relocating to Thailand for retirement. Thai women are beautiful and have a charm that will disarm the strongest, cold hearted men out there. Like anywhere else, buyer beware!!! Another great book by a great author.

Amazing book!
This is the second book I have read from guy and I can definitely relate to his life. I am a lot younger but share the same dream. Thailand is an amazing place and his description and story is so accurate that it makes you feel as if you are back on the streets of Bangkok, Chiangmai, or Phuket. I can't wait for my next trip to Thailand and maybe follow in his footsteps, hopefully at a younger age for my case. Anyways it's a fun read and a nice way to get your mind out of your world and in to his. Very inspirational.thank you so much Guy!

Insightful and fascinating. Easy to read
Was a quick read. Think I finished it in one or two sittings. The love interest aspect of the read was not really up to par compared to his first book. Similar thread about meeting his future wifes family just not as detailed. What I found interesting was where the author chose to settle down initally(sounds like a beautiful location) as well as many of the savory expat characters he writes about. Enjoyed reading about his sailing misadventure. Refreshing to read and good to know that one can find true happiness and contentment into retirement. Worth the read, especially after reading his first book. The author brings us full circle in achiving his dream of retiring in Thailand and making a successful career as a writer. Something I can see he has a passion and talent for.

Great follow up to My Thai Story
Guy Lilburne's new book My Thai Story II is a great read. I have lived in Thailand for a few years and found his experiences were similar to my own. This is a good book for anyone thinking about moving to Thailand. His description of relationships with Thai women was right on.I'm looking forward to more books by this exellent author!

Liked it, better than the first in the series of 2
liked the my Thai Story series... not as much as the drunk Irish guy detective series, but still pretty decent read, kept my attention... liked the 2nd book better than the first, but you need to read them in order to fully understand...

This book is an inspiration. Another excellent read by Guy.
Excellent book, glad to see such a happy ending to a mediocre life. I too sometimes see myself in his shoes and wish I could live the dream. It truly is a story where you can immerse yourself in his footsteps. I'm now planning my fifth journey to Pattaya to find a rented. Not only is this a story, it's an inspiration. Sometimes you do have to take the leap and follow your dream. Thailand really is the Land of Smiles.

An engaging read.
Spoiler alert! Don't read the about the author pop up before you read the book. Kind of lets you know the ending.Another interesting read for anyone interested in Thailand. I'm glad to see the author learns how things can be in Thailand,as we did our service over the same period ,and I would have hated to see him get stung. Some good tips and experiences for anyone planning a life in thailand. It's an engaging read. I'm gonna try the authors fiction now.Having not been able to change my life much I wish the author well.

Excellent second instalment
Follows on from where the first book left off with some startling news! The book then follows Guy's adventures, which ultimately see him, as you might expect, living full time in Thailand. The book is much better written than the first, which shows that Guy's writing has obviously been improving over the years. The book is also quite funny in places - humour was sadly missing from the first book.Again it's a decent enough read, with some classic capers and interesting characters, and moves along at a decent pace. I found some of the information useful.I won't spoil things by talking about how things turn out, but you know what, I think I would have been happy enough living in that little house on the end of the pier with my fishing rod and those beautiful sunsets...

Really enjoyed the book
I felt I had a lot in common with Guy, from my life as a policeman, to spending my last years in the job not happy and dreaming of a life in Thailand. I married my Thai wife and had a son 10 years before I retired, but I'd fallen in love with Thailand so having my wife in the UK for all of that time made the move even more difficult, but we did it last year, (2014). I think the author describes the issues with Thai/Farang relationships very accurately and the misunderstandings that are so common in these relationships can be funny but can also be quite demanding and difficult to overcome. A very enjoyable read, highly recommended.
