Review: precision on a budget - I don’t usually leave reviews, but I’ve been using this caliper for a few projects now and it’s good enough that I felt it was worth saying something. I bought it because I wanted to be more accurate with my 3D printing work, but I didn’t want to spend serious money. A Mitutoyo digital caliper which is top of the pile is around £110–£120 in the UK. This cost a fraction of that, so expectations were sensible. First impression was good. It’s stainless steel, has a bit of weight to it, and doesn’t feel like a toy. The slide is smooth and the little thumb wheel is actually really useful for creeping up on a measurement instead of overshooting it. Once you lock it, it stays put. Accuracy-wise, it’s been spot on for what I need. I checked it against a couple of known sizes and kept getting the same readings back, usually within about 0.02 mm. I honestly wouldn’t gain much by spending ten times more. The screen is clear, zeroes properly, and doesn’t jump around while you’re measuring. Inside, outside and depth measurements all work as expected, even on small holes where cheap calipers can be a bit sketchy. Is it as silky smooth or as refined as a top-end Mitutoyo? No. But it also doesn’t cost Mitutoyo money. For normal workshop use it does exactly what it should without getting in the way. If you’re a hobbyist, DIYer, or just want a reliable digital caliper without paying professional prices, this is a really solid buy. I’d happily buy it again.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it Stainless or aluminium**
A: The main section of the electronic vernier is Magnetic Steel.

**Q: I have shims that are between 0.1 and 0.3mm, some £15 calipers I bought can't see any difference between them, are these any good?**
A: I am a retired mechanical engineer with 50 plus years of practical and professional experience.
I bought this vernier caliper many months ago and am delighted with it and appreciate the extra large lcd display.
It measures in increments of 0.0005" and 0.01mm with repeatability.
A very reasonable bit of kit for a very competitive price.
It would certainly handle your requirement.
Best wishes,
John

**Q: How do you open the battery case ip54? there's no slot or lip or anything to leverage open? does it slide or lift out?**
A: There is a small tray at the back of the display with a small cutout for a finger nail. It just slides out but make sure the display faces down when you slide the tray out. The battery drops straight in with the writing on the battery facing the bottom of the tray and the plain surface facing up. If you pull the battery tray out with the display facing up the battery will drop out. Regards Alan.

**Q: Accuracy, 0.01 or 0.03 mm? The listing info states 0.01, yet in the pictures, the box clearly has 0.03 written on it...?**
A: Well unless you have very accurate test equipment we will never know for sure ! But I'd go with the box. I think someone has tried to summarise a lot of figures and has mixed up "resolution" (0.01mm) and "accuracy" (0.03mm or 0.001 inches). I'm happy with mine. anyway It seems well made and unless you are making parts for NASA it is accurate enough for most real life uses. Kind regards, Tony

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Inside/outside jaws differ by 0.06mm but otherwise acceptable
*by M***Y on 9 May 2022*

I did a review of this product on youtube and showed how I carried out various checks. Using a 50mm engineers block I checked accuracy and repeatability of main jaws 49.98 to 50.0 readings which are within spec and indicate pretty good flatness and parallel machining of main jaws. Inside measurement jaws were not so good - the flat faces have a gap meaning the measurment axis is not inline with the points of measurment, this is worse for small items. There is a 0.06mm difference between the main jaws (which you use to zero, and the inside jaws, which are therefore actually out of spec, the inside jaws are difficult to zero separate from main jaws (they don't fit in a hole that has no size). Depth gauge/step - this end face is quite crudely ground and setting this on the engineer table it is easy to measure that the "plunger" is 0.05mm short of the end of the body, unlike the inside jaws you can probably zero-out this error. I had to tighten two screws in the body that they had forgotten to do in the factory (under the label) and on delivery the slide section was a bit wobbly because they had not properly tightened the top two screws that adjust the slider friction. After doing this it made the faces parallel and it works pretty well. I was disapointed in the attention to detail in the manufacture but accuracy and repeatablity are ok for the main jaws. For the price it is acceptable and better than the budget devices
