WD-40 performed as expected for lubrication purposes and useful for cleaning motorcycle chains without damaging the fragile O rings.

This is a MUST HAVE PRODUCT. For crying out loud it has more than 2000 uses. I've already lubricated my two folding knives and the track of a sliding screen door to the deck that I popped of the track accidentally -- oh yeah, and the cranks on some Anderson windows. Feel like it ought to come with a hip holster, like LEOs have for Mace. It's THAT essential.

In my opinion, when WD-40 evaporates, it opens unprotected metals up to rust. It's primarily a penetrator and water repellent, not a lubricant. But it has the unintended side effect of stripping away beneficial protective oils. If you want ultimate penetration, mix 50/50 acetone and transmission fluid. That penetrates nearly 400% faster and deeper than WD-40. Then, re-apply some kind of oil after you are done. Even motor oil will do. Full synthetic is best. You're welcome.
