A great book paraphrazed!
One of the characteristics of Jane Austin's works that makes them truly great is her prose. This edition has many words & phrases in which the original is changed! I bought it to supplement a [printed book & ran into a sentence about Emma's mom.....mom? This kind of arbitrary change shows up continually, as checked against my Oxford Edition.

A Total Fraud
Definitely avoid this buying any book from this company. There are endless grammatical errors and typos - it was obviously not edited. I don't think this was even published by a legitimate company from the looks of things. It has no page numbers, so I can't tell you the exact number of pages, but it's ABSOLUTELY a shortened edition (very short, missing a lot of content). I don't know what kind of company this is, but you should avoid buying books from them. This, of course, is not reflection on the book itself. Jane Austen is the best and this book is wonderful to read. I was hoping to add it to my library (hence the purchase), but will have to get a real copy elsewhere. You get what you pay for, I guess!

but I nevertheless found it nearly as entertaining and wonderfully written and it has an array of rich characters
Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility" is not the polished, skillfully crafted novel that her "Pride and Prejudice" is, but I nevertheless found it nearly as entertaining and wonderfully written and it has an array of rich characters. The subject matter is, once again, upper class British society and how money, land ownership, titles, and good looks influences who you marry much more than love; and how a woman's livelihood depended so much on the men they married. At times, I found myself thinking how bizarre it had to be to be part of such a society and then I remember back to my experiences in Los Angeles and the upper east side of Manhattan and it all seemed so relevant, some two hundred years later.I strongly recommend this book, and without giving away any of the many story lines, love does occasionally win out.

Excellence & Erudition
I picked up this book largely due to fond memories of Pride and Prejudice (Enriched Classics) , but I found Sense & Sensibility is an excellent novel in its own right. I'm not sure why, but I was worried that it might be a bit dry. I needn't have been concerned, as the wit and story both sparkle from the first few pages and it only gets better as it goes along. The basic plot involves two sisters who have been more or less cheated out of an inheritance and are struggling to find husbands and happiness. Elinor is the oldest and is very intelligent and wise (Sense) and her sister Marianne is all raw emotion and passion (Sensibility). How these two interact with the world, each other, as well as family and friends makes up the bulk of the book. They struggle to understand each other even as they slowly grow more alike... meeting not quite in the middle but closer than they were. The supporting characters are very engaging and I found myself rooting for most of them, even a couple who are not entirely good. There are a few characters (e.g. Mrs. Jenkins) who are caricatures meant to parody some of the social norms of the day but even she has some depth to her and is likeable.I won't give the ending or any major plot points away but the story does move along well and has a fairly satisfying ending. I did think that a bit more attention could have been paid to Marianne at the end but in many respects Elinor is more the central character so it is perhaps fitting that the climax focuses more on her.In sum, this is an excellent novel and well worth reading.

Beautifully written, a tribute to a ragingly more civilized past
My third JA & every bit as enjoyable a read as the other two or frankly any classic. She truly is worthy of being considered one of humanity's best ten writers, ever.Highly recommended. If it's your first, hang in, the style is masterable! And it's so rich with insight you can go right back and re-read to gain more.

Green paperback is NOT the full novel!
Beware of ordering Sense and Sensibility in paperback form from Amazon! I got a print-on-demand SUMMARY (like "Cliff's Notes") book. The green paperback (cover pic included) that was offered as one of the purchase options for about 4 dollars is NOT the full novel "Sense and Sensibility" by Jane Austen as described by Amazon. Instead it is a chapter-by-chapter summary. Most chapters are no more than 5 pages long and some are only 1 page. There is no publisher information in the book and there are no page numbers. No where in the book nor the covers, inside or out, indicate that it is a only summary and not the full novel. The only clue to who even made the book is on the very last page "Made in the USA, Coppell TX, 06 October 2020" which was the date I ordered the book. Obviously this was a print-on-demand book... but I didn't demand a summary. I ordered the full novel.

One of the rare and gorgeous edition out there!!
I am thrilled to tell you that I've received a very beautiful and rare collectible edition. I was super excited and this time amazon satisfied me 99% (one % not because the packaging was not good and also the bookmark was not there). So this is michael o mara classic collection. A hardcover book with white good quality pages, clothbound cover and a black ribbon book mark(maybe that's why they didn't provided book mark).I'm in love with this edition and waited very long to buy this one. There's chinese style painting of tree on the cover as well as inside.

A Personal Favourite
Like a vast number of people, I am a Jane Austen fan, and of all her books I have always had a special predilection for this particular tale, although as we all know Pride and Prejudice is her most popular novel. This was first published anonymously, and sales were pretty good for the period, which of course we cannot compare with the likes of today. Here we follow mainly two daughters of the Dashwood family, Elinor and Marianne, and the trials and tribulations they go through in getting married. We know that Austen changed the structure as well as the title of this as she progressed from her first draught and this was possibly to create something a bit more balanced and thoughtful between the two words in the title, sense, and sensibility. What will the sisters use in their search for a romantic marriage and future? There is of course sly wit and irony here as Miss Austen shows off her skills that have made her so loved by millions throughout the world. For the likes of many of us in the Western World so the necessity of finding a partner that will bring wealth and property, as well as other things that can further one in the world, have no longer any relevance, but in other parts of the world these are still facts of life, where marriage is not that much about love, but of security. So, we see troublesome times ahead as both Elinor and Marianne find themselves caught up with men who want other things than just love can bring them. This still makes for an enjoyable and interesting read, showing us the world of the period this was written, and giving us a lot to think upon, or if you read this in a book group, to discuss. This book also shows the development of the novel into what is now the modern romance genre.

Great Story, Terrible Cover Quality
I haven’t yet read this book, but the story is no doubt going to be wonderful. My issue is the quality of the book and it’s cover...I spent a great deal of time searching through the different collections of Jane Austen, as I want to get a number of her stories in matching covers/styles, so when I saw this one, I thought the covers looked lovely. Sense and Sensibility was the first one I have ordered, and I’m very disappointed with the cover and finish. It looks like someone just printed out an image file of the cover, printed it out on a bit of flimsy card, then stuck it to the book. As you can see from the photos attached, the book is matte due to the lack of laminated card used, the edges look a little rough as if someone just sliced the cover from a guillotine found in a school classroom. You can’t even read the title or author on the spine of the book!Considering this is supposed to be part of the English Library Penguin edition, I was expecting more than this. There also appears to be a grease smudge on the front cover as well, which wouldn’t have been noticeable if it was a laminate/glossy card used.Very disappointed in the finish. Half considering returning it and putting my money towards a better copy which will actually look nice/readable on my shelf.

My first Jane Austen read
This is the first Jane Austen book that I have read. I must say that it took a while to get used to the language used but I got the gist of it. I don’t usually read historical type romance or period drama etc. I reading enjoyed it. The setting is described well and the story really draws you in. The characters are also well written and you get a feel for The main heroine Elinor, also her sister Marianne and their mother Mrs Dashwood. It seems strange reading a story written so long ago with so much drama. The way marriages are formed more for financial gain and status rather than love or romance. Some of the characters are so deceitful and jealous and will go to great lengths to get ahead. I will definitely read more from Jane Austen.
