Not what musicians understand a 'tube' amp to be.
I do not own or even played through this amp. This review is to point out the dishonesty of the marketing: THIS IS NOT A TUBE AMP!It has a solid-state power section, not a tube-based one. The inclusion of a a single preamp tube does not allow one to call this a tube amp. At best it could be called a 'hybrid' amp. The great harmonics, warm overdrive/distortion, and sheer volume are all associated with power tubes being pushed hard. Solid-state power gives you a nice clean sound (and usually pretty good bass), but tend to sound brittle and harsh when distorted. Solid-state also provides much less actual volume. I regularly gig with an 18w real tube amp (1994 Crate 2110R) in a good size venue seating a couple hundred folks and I have no problem being heard over the drummer and other instruments. My 20w solid-state amp, however, I can play at full volume in my small office/music room without endangering my hearing, but I wouldn't be able to hear it on-stage even standing next to it.You can find 5w real tube amps on line for about $100 that will be louder and give you that great tube amp sound, if that is what you are looking for. If you are looking to amplify an acoustic guitar, then solid-state amps will reproduce your guitar's sound more accurately, but you will need a lot more wattage if you plan to gig.Hadean should re-do their marketing to be more honest. One wonders what else they may be misrepresenting. I bet they'd sell more if they would just market it more appropriately/accurately.. It sure does look good! So, this may be a fine, well-made, nice sounding amplifier. It certainly looks nice. But it isn't a tube amp.
