The classic of mediaeval Indian history
Satish Chandra is a well-known authority on mediaeval Indian history, and this is a classic. The other one-star review is clearly politically motivated. Meenakshi Jain, whom the other review cites, has been widely criticized for her treatment of mediaeval Indian history as an overly simplistic, ideologically motivated Hindu victims vs. Muslim oppressors narrative, which ignores many historical sources.

One-sided history
This book has been described by Meenakshi Jain as part of Marxist historiography. The book is often one-sided and negationist and written with an agenda. The book omits "incovnient moments" and hides the history of persecution of Hindus, and the destruction of temples. At the same time, it projects these atrocities on Hindus (for which there is often no real case). It has also been criticized by Dr. Meenakshi Jain ("Flawed Narratives"), which includes many samples of confusion, obfuscation and distortion. Arun Shourie's excellent book on Marxist historians "Eminent Historians: Their Technology, Their Line, Their Fraud" also contains criticisms of this book.Instead of this book, I recommend to read the works of Sita Ram Goel, R.C. Majumdar, Sir Jadunath Sarkar, Koenraad Elst and Meenakshi Jain.
