A Nostalgic and Practical Notetaking Companion!
The Portage Small Dot Grid Notebook is a fantastic product that offers great value and is perfect for those who prefer traditional notetaking over digital methods. The notebook’s size is ideal, measuring 3.5" x 5.5", making it compact enough to fit in a small pocket or bag. Despite its small size, it provides ample space for notes, sketches, and more, thanks to its dotted grid design that allows for maximum creativity and customization. One of the standout features of this notebook is its portability. The sturdy and durable construction makes it easy to take notes on the go, whether you’re in the field or simply walking. This makes it a reliable companion for those spontaneous moments of inspiration. The versatility of this notebook is another major plus. It’s not just for field reporting; it can be used as a travelogue, a daily journal, a drawing notebook, a planner, a composition notebook, and more. This adaptability makes it a valuable tool for a wide range of users. The notebook’s side-bound Kraft paper cover adds to its durability and flexibility, ensuring it lasts. The staple binding allows it to lay flat in your pocket or wherever you store your notepad, adding to its convenience. In conclusion, the Portage Small Dot Grid Notebook is a high-quality, versatile, and convenient product that I highly recommend for those who appreciate the charm and practicality of old-school notetaking.

Sturdy Pocket Notebooks!
I'd really give these like a 4.5. They're priced competitively, they're definitely sturdy, but they're not super fountain pen friendly. Even my EDC ballpoint shows through a bit, my fountains show threw a lot, and definitely have some bleed through. Maybe if you like EF nibs it wouldn't be as big of a deal, but my M nibs show through. That said, these are sturdy. During slow seasons when I'm not using my pocket notebook much, it still lives in my back pocket. After being in my pack pocket for 6 months sometimes, it looks like it could hold up to at least another year in my back pocket. Only issue is of course it is now shapped to my butt cheek, but of course, I've been sitting on it for 6 months. So, I'd buy again. The paper is good enough for an EDC for me, and the covers are plenty sturdy. If they could up the paper quality, it'd be an easy 10/10 for me, but it is close enough without it, or maybe I just need to try smaller nibs.

Great for the granddaughters.
My granddaughters wanted to be like grandpa in a carhaart pocket T-shirt with a field notes notebook. Didn’t want to spend a ton of money in notebooks for them to scribble and doodle in and go through 2 a week. Found these and they’re great for that. Decent notebooks overall and I use them myself for certain applications, but they’re great for the granddaughters

Not great for daily notes
Normally, I do not leave lengthy reviews. However, I bought these notebooks to see if they measured up to Field Notes. I have only bought one set of Field Notes, but found this product and thought I'd give it a try due to the cheaper price tag and amazing reviews of the product. I purchased the grid/graph paper because I prefer using graph paper. For me, this product is just OK. I will be going back to Field Notes when I'm finished with all 6 books of this product. Or, I may give them away to someone who might use them and purchase the field notes I want. I'm on the fence.Pros:-twice as many books for the price-more pages (But there is a white border that takes up a decent amount of page real estate, so I'm not sure just how effective this is...)-blank cover (even though field notes offers blank covers too, the inside cover is blank for artwork/contents or notes without taking up a page).Cons:-grid lines are WAY too dark. They make my notes look extremely busy and hard to read. I use bic 4-color ballpoint pens for color coding my notes, and they are just hard to read on the grid lines. With Field Notes, I can concentrate on my notes and not have to really concentrate on reading what I wrote between the dark blue lines of the graphs.-there is a white border around every page. This border takes up a bit of page real estate and thus limits the amount of notes on the page and thus uses up pages much faster than anticipated, so the question is, are the extra pages actually useful?-squares seem to be a tad larger than the Field Notes squares. This is probably fine for some people, but I prefer the smaller squares.-Paper is not as thick as Field Notes. It does not have the premium feel. However, for ballpoint pens, it works just fine. It is decent, but not AS good as Field Notes. There is no ghosting, but the paper would have to be pretty terrible for ballpoint pen to ghost through. Sometimes I use Sharpie felt tip pens, and that ghosts through. All in all, this is an OK product. Just not for me. I gave them a try.
