Barber Direct Drive Compact British Overdrive Pedal w/ 2 Free Cables

I've been through a lot of OD pedals over the years and for Marshally type tones this one is unbeatable. It's all subjective of course, depending on what amp and guitar you're using, but this pedal plays well on all my amps, even solid state amps. Super versatile with the micro switches and a very broad range of gain, from a slight breakup with the gain toggle set to lo-gain, and roaring Marshall with it set to the hi-gain position. It's not *exactly* like a Marshall (Plexi, JCM, or whatever), so if you're looking to emulate a Marshall tone perfectly this might not be it. It's great for classic rock and blues. Probably not for metal, which I don't play. The OD/distortion sound is very believable as a cranked tube amp sound, none of those fizzy artifacts we guitarists all hate. This pedal has unique midrange content that sets it apart from other pedals. Some pedals have a huge boost in the mids and others don't boost the mids at all, making the pedal sound weak and anemic. This cuts through the mix, the midrange is perfect. Some have said it's "dark". I don't get that at all. That's what the Tone knob is for LOL. Lastly, the price. I see what other 'boutique' manufacturers are charging and it's insane. Barber's prices are extremely fair and their products are high quality. I also own a Barber Gain Changer pedal which is also great, not as Marshally as this one but just as versatile. In fact, the Gain Changer/Direct Drive combination is perfect. I'm not affiliated with Barber at all, I just call out great products when I see them.

This pedal darkens your tone - It is a decent pedal otherwise - quiet, very responsive E.Q., distinctive gain characteristics from the microswitches etc., very well built.It was just too dark for my tastes. (This kind of thing is so subjective)-

Super versatile pedal. Bought it to Marshall-up my Tone King Meteor II amp. It does that and much more, and for less than other multi-drive pedals. Can't say enough about it!!!
