The longer answer assumes that you have the i-drive controller and a dash screen. If that is the case, not only will the controller not do anything with this camera, the output signal is not compatible with the i-drive system anyway. I think it can be converted with an emulator module, but that's probably not a route you want to take. This camera is intended for use with aftermarket head units that accept a standard video input. The only "control" is on-off because the camera will be powered by the back up light wire (via a relay). Most aftermarket head units will switch over to the backup display as soon as it is powered up by shifting into reverse. In summary, I don't think this is what you want, at least not by itself.
