Extra Large Wooden Yarn Bowl – 7x4 – Handcarved from Indian Rosewood

I have not yet used this yarn bowl for its intended purpose, because I had to make my own improvements to it before use. The pictures posted are after I worked on it myself. When I opened the box, the first thing that I noticed was that the finish on the wood was very cloudy and dusty and smelled heavily of varnish that had not cured or dried fully. I also noticed a significant amount of sharp splinters sticking up in the spiral and holes where yarn would feed through. I wiped/rubbed the bowl with a dry rag, and even though the cloudiness went away, polishing revealed even more problems. There are cracks and bubbles in the finish, resulting in a couple gray spots that stand out from the wood color. Because I have the ability and know-how, I carefully sanded away the splinters in the spiral and holes, though that also removed some of the stain color. Not everyone has this ability, so for most people these splinters would have made the bowl unusable. Also on the inside of the bowl are 2 somethings caught into the finish that result in a sharp snag point that I was too nervous to try to sand away. This bowl was essentially unfinished/unusable when it arrived, but because I knew how to fix it and I had already gone through a complicated process to get this bowl, I chose to finish it myself rather than return. So instead I am writing this review with pictures to give caution to others who are not so willing to finish or fix someone else's work.upside: the shape and color are great.

Sad to say it arrived broken. The cut curl of the wood was too thin and it broke. I invested in a larger, heavier bowl.

The bowl is beautiful and holds a large ball of yarn but UPS always delivers not to us but to the church next doorSending by USPS would be a far better way to send merchandise

It was tough to decide which yarn bowl to purchase because some of them had horrible reviews. i seemed to have lucked out. My bowl is as described and very usable. Thanks so much!!

It is beautiful and works well as a knitting bowl

The finishing on this bowl was very poor. The holes for yarn to slide through were very rough and would badly snag yarn. The surface finish was also of very poor quality.
