Tabitha Lord took the bold step of writing a strong female character who is an empath in a genre that usually resorts to violence as the primary way to win the day. Her main character, Caeli, a doctor with an acute sense of what ails her patient and the ability to heal them at a great cost to her own health, stands up well in this story. She is resourceful, conflicted and determined to save her people from the machinations of a dictator. An encounter with an 'alien' human, who arrives at her isolated planet with advanced technology, both improves her chances of survival and success and complicates her life. She discovers the threat to her planet is not only from within but also from other distant malevolent actors. Together she and her new 'alien' partner embark on an impossible seeming task. I enjoyed this book; Lord's exploration of Caeli's psychic talents, her emotional feelings and connection to others is well thought out.

Throughly enjoyed this second novel continuing the story of Almagest, a planet whose citizens are in conflict due to a cruel and misguided leader who led his military to commit genocide on the minority’s populace. In this sequel, Marcus, the leader, starts trading some of the survivors of the minority race, the Novali, who have special gifts. In this way he gains technology and weapons to further control his people. In this novel the conflict is resolved and we see Almagest move into the space age.

If you insist on depth, action, integrity, and great writing in your science fiction that doesn't overpower the message of the story. Stop. Buy. Read. Enjoy. Period.Plus, the hero and heroine are beautifully real!Mic drop!

This book was as good as the first. Lots of action and character development. Looking forward to next book in series.

Excellent continuation of the previous book. The author makes you care about the characters and I can't wait till the next book!

Couldn't put this book down. I can't wait for other third book. Good relationships, complex feelings, relevant conflicts and compelling plot.

I absorbed the first novel and could not wait to get the second. I love the characters in this series and way the author flows with the story. I dont want the series to end!
