A mom's perspective!
My twin 5th graders tested into "Advanced 7th Grade" level math, but their teacher warned me that with the new Common Core standards, skipping a grade of math could have serious consequences as a freshman, when these concepts are reintroduced. She recommended that they complete this book over the summer as self study. You can imagine how fun that sounded, and I was skeptical. Well, this book does the trick! They completed it over the summer independently. Each of the 104 lessons is self explanatory, and introduces a concept that is indexed, making this a great reference book even after you have completed it. The problems for each lesson are worded interestingly, are challenging but not impossible, and BEST of all, there is a key for every page that is correct and simple to follow. There were just enough problems to firmly demonstrate the concept, and no excess repetition which you find in many other workbooks. After my girls completed problems, I corrected them using the key, and put a small sticker if the page was correct, or used a flag post-it to identify which problem was incorrect. They then checked their answer after reworking the problem, and rarely was there a question or concern. The book itself is high quality and durable with tough binding, which was important for summer self study. The pages are perforated, but do not fall out easily. The cover wipes well. The book is not too heavy and we took it traveling without problems.I am sad that there is not a Grade 7 version and would definitely use that if it were available.

Must buy if you do not owe a math text book for common core standards...
This is a great text book if you are looking to teach your 6th grader as it has text explanation for each common core standard of 6th grade math. Not great fro testing standpoint as number of problems given for each chapter are 4-6... But hey I bought another book and combined teaching my son from this boo. And it worked awesome... Very thoughtful lesson design that provides the step by step guidance for the parent and child to read, discuss and understand basic math concepts for 6th grade standard.

Excellent alignment to Common Core math standards - Great resource!
This is one of the best series I've seen for teaching math using the Common Core standards. It is by the same publishing company (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) that produces Go Math, and is similar. Each reproducible page contains a step-by-step modeled lesson, practice problems that are a mix of calculation practice, multiple choice word problems, and open response word problems. Also, each page is labeled with the Common Core math standard and all answers are provided at the end of the book. I've shared this series with teachers of other grade levels who were looking for a resource truly aligned with Common Core, and they have been as impressed as I am and have all bought these books.

Hard CORE!
I have been buying practice books for my children for years. This is the first time I have bought a math book that I found completely aligned to the standards and very user friendly. There were explicit instructions and examples for every topic, short answer questions, word problems and "part II" type questions. I used this book every week to review for class exams with my daughter, and to better prepare her for the State Exam. Very upset that they don't make a 7th grade edition. However, Steck and Vaughn have produced another book for 7th grade that I am sure to check out.

Perfect book for tutoring
I tutor students one-on-one, and the hardest part for me is finding applicable activities for the common core for my students to work on. These worksheets are just what I was looking for. With a little lesson at the beginning of each page explaining the concepts, and then practice problems (including lots of word problems) for the student to work on after that. Perfect! Now where is this book for grades 7 and 8 ??

I usually buy books online for standardized testing or diagnostic assessments. This time, however, I needed a book that was comprehensive; one that would not just TEST the skill, but TEACH the skill. This book met my every expectation!
