Review: Works on a 2010 Macbook Pro - The biggest problem I have recently experienced with having an old computer is finding a CD drive to work with this old computer. The internal drive either no longer worked or they disabled it so it does not read audio CDs hence the need to find something in order to complete the task. I tried an Apple super drive external CD reader/writer and that was not recognized by computer, that is ironic because these are both Apple products, although believable because my computer so old. I ended finding this unit on desertcart and decided to give it shot. The unit showed up the next day in the standard brown box, I did not read the directions and that caused a minor delay in getting this unit operational. There will be 2 USB cables, one will plug into the computer and the other must plug into an electrical source and that cannot be your computer. Also worth noting, your computer will not see this unit until you insert a CD into the drive. Once you do that the magic begins. I was able to copy 136 songs off a variety CDs and that landed in my apple music / itunes account. Then those songs were uploaded into my phone without issue. It is without a doubt this little drive was worth the money and I highly recommend this unit for older computer owners who are having a tough time finding a CD drive that will work on their system.

A: Replying a bit late here but wanted to set this record straight. The answer to this question is no, you cannot connect this to a USB port on a TV and expect it to work. The TV likely will not have the necessary drivers and software to support this drive and decode a DVD. This drive is intended to be used on a laptop or desktop PC and if using for DVD playback you will need the necessary software to play the disc such as PowerDVD or VLC Player.

I Purchased this because I’ve found some CDs with family photos on them and nowadays, computers and laptops do not have a CD drive. This was easy to use. Do not buy this piece of junk. Will not burn DVDs so that they work. Will not install ISOs downloaded onto your computer. Very noisy which means it is not working properly. The outer fave plate keeos coming off. Have not had this for even two weeks and had to buy another one. I do not recommend this product or this vendor at all.
