These are spectacular for hot beverages like coffee and tea, because the steam helps to create a good seal. They are especially useful for long steep teas (10-15 minutes) straight in the mug rather than in a tea pot. Keeps the heat and steam in, which can help release additional compounds in the herbs. I was previously wrapping tin foil over the tops of my mugs, but this is a greener, much more elegant solution. They also help to prevent minor spills from sloshing liquids, which is great when I carry my coffee mug up stairs to my office every day.I have a minor gripe with the "stems", which are hollow on the inside. Steam collects inside, and if you are using them for coffee the stems start to smell a little, even with hand washing. I usually toss mine into the top rack of the dish washer once a week to help disinfect. The smell is not as noticeable with tea, and a quick rinse with a little dish soap usually takes care of it.
