after wearing them once in the wet i will not again they are slippery

Probably not - I would imagine the soles would be very slippy, especially in a kitchen environment, and they won't be very good if you spill anything on them, hot liquids etc, they're not designed to be waterproof. search for something advertised specifically for kitchen use, you'll be much better off.
