Very good upgrade from mechanical disk brakes
I consider these hydraulic brakes entry level to mid level brakes. They work really well and they are not super expensive. They are a Great upgrade from any mechanical disk brakes I have had. An advantage of hydraulic brakes over mechanical brakes is that there's no need for constant adjustment due to wear of the pads or slipping/stretching brake cables. Also brake installation and alignment is easier than with the mechanical brakes. These brakes came with fluid and they were pre bled and ready to go. In the future at some point the brakes will probably need to be bled. I would recommend getting some mineral oil and a brake bleeding kit. If you need to cut the brake hoses to shorten them then you will need not only that, but also olives and inserts. You will need BH59 inserts for these brake hoses. If you are a beginner and have no mechanical experience I think most people can watch some YouTube videos and not have much of a problem installing the brakes. Cutting hoses, Bleeding the brakes, and the tools you will need are a little more in depth but not greatly difficult. I would definitely recommend these brakes. They are night and day compared to mechanical disc brakes, not only in performance but maintenance as well.

Great upgrade from mechanical disc brakes
This kit comes 'value add' pre-assembled and pre-bled. Super easy to install and worked great! Major upgrade over mechanical disc brakes. I bought my wife's bike 1.5 years ago and was excited to have disc brakes over the old v-brakes or rim brakes. But, they have always been far less powerful and more prone to squealing than I was happy about. when I looked into it and found this upgrade kit I didn't hesitate to order it. It installed very easily and I'm thrilled with the results! This is not a high-end mountain bike brake system, but for a trail bike that already has disc brakes this is a solid upgrade that's well worth the cost and effort. Highly recommended!11/30/2019 update: I just wanted to come back and give an update. My wife has put over 1,000 miles on her bike since I installed these and they're still working perfectly! This was a great upgrade for her bike. These work so much better than the original cable-actuated solution. Those were always squealing because they have a fixed pad on one side and only moved the one pad to clamp. These move both at once and clamp evenly on both sides. Plus, these are now about $20 less than I paid for them. Great value!!!10/3/2024 update: the first set of these are still going strong on that bike (which is now our daughters bike). The new bike we had purchased for my wife came with some lousy Tektro flat mount calipers that I've now converted to these Shimano MT200s. I had to buy some adapter brackets from Amazon to mount them, but these brakes have again come through for me and are an amazing upgrade once again. Still highly recommended!!!

Great deal, very effective and smooth. Missing 2nd mounting bracket, be attentive to those length.
I just installed these on my old buzz novara, replacing Avid BDBB mechanicals that were getting too old and worn to entice me to invest time squeezing more life from them. Now my brakes weren't working optimally to begin with but taking these for a spin, holy moly! The engagement is smooth with light pressure on the handle and the stopping power with the rear set alone is impressive. I live in New Orleans so I'm mostly biking NOLA roads with NOLA drivers and everything is very flat. So these are a bit overkill, but I imagine they'd be more than adequate in San Fransisco or in Appalachia. My first time installing disc brakes and it couldn't have been easier given the tech.IMPORTANTLYI ordered the 2nd size of US <I'll need to check and update, 1650 rear I think> and both front and rear were too long, rear more so. I'll need to shorten them at some point. Which brings me too what is not included:Parts to shorten the hose, and olive and other stuff I'm not too familiar with yet.More importantly, there is only one mounting bracket included in addition to what I believe is a 180mm rotor spacer. No rotors either. I had ordered new rotors and used my old mounting bracket for the front calipers, but you'll want to make sure to procure another bracket if you don't have one.TlDROnly included one mounting bracket and 180mm spacer. No parts to shorten hoses and be careful with the length, I thought I'd measured correctly but I my hoses were still too long(not a ton but I'll want to shorten them eventually).Otherwise for the money, I can't believe how effective they are. I thought hydraulics and even new calipers were out of budget but putting aside a little coin, they seem to be well worth the modest investment.

Super easy for beginner as long as it’s not internally routed
These brakes are very good in performance. They are so much better than mechanical disk brakes. I got them for my brother for Christmas and I know how to work on bikes so I figured it would be super easy. It would have been easy as the kit comes pre bled and all together, but I didn’t read the description and thought it was separate parts. My fault but good to note. My brothers specialized rockhopper is a budget mountain bike which has internally routed cables. I went to install them and realized this, which was annoying to find out. I know how to set up new brake lines and stuff, just didn’t have any olives or inserts for it. So I ordered those and now they work great. Definitely recommend especially for the relatively cheap cost for them. Just make sure you don’t have internal routing, and if you do take it to a shop or make sure you have some inserts and olives as well as bleed stuff. Super easy to do if it’s not internally routed.

Great price and great product
I love Shimano hydraulic disc brakes because they work really well and they are super easy to maintain. These brakes are a basic set but they work really well. I like that they have the reach adjustment screws on the levers. This is super nice for getting the levers dialed in the way you like. The only thing they don’t have is the bleed nipple on the brake caliper (like the rest of my more high end shimano brakes). So to do a full bleed there’s probably an extra adapter you would need. But these are going on my sons bike (age 5) so I doubt they will need a full bleed anytime soon.
