Refresh Your Garden Design with Color, Texture and Form

Is it time to look at your garden with a fresh set of eyes and cool new bag of tricks? If so...
Rebecca Sweet's new book is absolutely brilliant and very user friendly. She takes us on a methodical journey through the thought process for refreshing a tired garden, a garden that for some reason no longer seems right. I think most gardeners would agree that over time the look and feel of our gardens change. We know it happens but if you are like me, it can be difficult to pinpoint the problem and find a solution. Rebecca takes us through all the steps needed to eventually figure out what we need to do in order to bring back the 'harmony' in our gardens. She gives us the knowledge to come up with the 'Aha' moment!Rebecca's easy conversational style demystifies garden design. Her photos are incredible, and the before/after shots are better than 1000 words! This may be the most practical and useful garden design book I've ever read. It is the perfect gift for every gardener in your life.

Finally - the book I have needed for so long!
Finally - the book I have needed for so long! As a frustrated weekend Gardner, I waste tons of money at the nursery in hopes of making my garden beautiful. I always think - maybe it needs just a few more plants. I have already read this book twice. This is what I have been needing for years. Each chapter gives me insight into what I have been doing wrong and how to look at the garden differently - like a landscape designer! Every page gives me amazing information along with beautiful AND instructional photographs. Reading the book is like sitting down with a wonderful designer like Rebecca and going over every area of the garden. I plan on giving this book to every friend, relative, and client who loves to garden, but can never get it quite right. Thank you for writing such a thoughtful, helpful and beautiful book. I know because of the book, there is hope for my garden!

A primer for those new to design concepts
I found this to be un-inspiring in layout, text, and pictures. There were a few tips that I thought worked nicely in the book's favor--page 111 talks about shapes and their weight. This is nice use of language that helps convey the idea of how more solid visual weight can add a certain heaviness to your garden. It's a nicely done subchapter. And her section on the power of the triangle on the following pages is great. Form and shape echoes is also a good section. Strangely, these are all grouped together. Unfortunately, I found the rest of the book to be pretty run-of-the-mill and a lot less inspiring than a current garden magazine. If garden design concepts are completely new to you, this might be a good primer. Otherwise I'd steer clear.

I loved it so much I bought it for friends and family as well. Makes a perfect gift. This book has so many wonderful ideas and photos to help you make your garden a place to relax and enjoy. It is written by an amazing landscape designer that truly knows her stuff. It is not just for those with a grand garden but for those looking to update even a small section of yard. Anyone can create a lovely garden with the ideas found in this beautiful book. Best purchase I have made!!!!!

Recommend.
I am redoing parts of my small garden and I find this book very helpful.I think a lot more about where a plant would look best instead of just planting it.The book has many photographs which helps with inspiring my unartistic eye.

Great ideas for the home landscaper.
In depth presentation of approaching landscape projects and problems. Takes a multi-level view with lots of examples. Covers the "art" of design, which most DIYers should consider to obtain a truly professional and satisfying result. Recommends/Uses camera views color and B/W. Many things to consider--love the book because you can select what appeals most to you. Some photo examples could be clarified more. Could be overwhelming unless you appreciate design is not done in a weekend.

Great guide for refreshing and updating the garden
Exactly what I wanted. Clearly written, great examples, supported by excellent pictures. My garden plants had become overgrown in some areas, trees had shaded formerly sunny places, and the garden looked like a real hodgepodge. Sweet's book has given me many ideas about how to tame and refresh the garden and make it appealing again.

A keeper for the library of garden books
Wonderful garden photos that match the text and give excellent visual examples of the information being shared. A really good book for those who want to refresh an old garden, but also would be so helpful to read before you put a single plant in the ground so you could follow the design rules right from the start.

Good info
A well written book that is colourful and easy to follow and not just a shop window for expensive hard landscaping.
