We're planning a trip this summer, and this book has really helped us be better informed as to what places to camp. It tells which take reservations and which don't, what kinds of bathroom facilities are present, the elevation (important for getting an idea of temperature ranges), and so on. Also, it's well organized by region and the maps make it easy to figure out which campsites are in the area where you want to camp.Highly recommended if you're thinking about camping in California.

I've just completed a 30-day camping road trip with my son. We camped and hiked around northern CA using this book and the companion hiking CA book by Moon. They were invaluable. What I appreciate about this book is that it consolidates all of the various camping options into one place. Combine that with the face that the hiking book uses that same map divisions which makes it easy to plan hikes based on where we were camping. Great job!

This is an amazing work. You can tell a lot of effort went into it, and it has been extremely helpful for our camping trips. However, there seems to be some errors, and I’m guessing by some of the reviews the author has not been to all the campsites (or talked with people who have). I’m guessing a lot of internet research went into this, and I don’t doubt that the author has personally seen a lot of these campsites. It’s kinda unreasonable to expect that to happen, but some of the reviews were a little off. Overall, great work and very helpful.

This book is full of useful info about camp spots that don't show up on internet searches unless you know what the spot is called which is silly!! I have found enough to make a new list of spots to check out in different ranges from my hometown.This book will keep me busy for decades with amazingly beautiful camp spots.

I am planning a trip up the California coast and sure, I could use the internet to research camping areas, but this books lays out who takes tents and who doesn't. This has saved me a lot of time weeding out useless sites. I appreciate the honesty about sites that may have issues with thieves or questionable activities. Great book with great descriptions.

A lot of good information in this book but also many gaps & a lack of timely updates. For example, constant, noisy freight train traffic right beside a campground (Victorville) should be noted. The info about the availability of power hook-ups is too often unreliable.

This is an outstanding reference for camping in California. I bought an old 1987 version of this at a thrift shop and was instantly impressed. I hoped that it had been updated, was pleased it had and immediately bought it. As far as I'm concerned, this is THE go-to book for campgrounds in California. Concise, readable and succinct. It's hard to imagine any camper in California not appreciating what this book offers.

We just returned early from what would have been a camping weekend because the book only has scenic rating but it does not tell you things like how old the facilities are, when the bathrooms were last remodeled, level of cleanliness and up keep, nor that the RV site has many permanent residents and that many look like they moved in in the 1950’s! There hasn’t been a coat of paint since. The scenic rating for this site was 7. The view to the lake afar and the mountains was very nice. Not enough to spend the night. We will be returning this book and using the internet from now on.

Ich habe mir diesen Camping-Führer bestellt, da ich mit meinem Kumpel 2016 einen ausgiebigen Camping Urlaub durch Cali machen werde.Er ist zwar auf english aber nachdem ich mal durch geschaut habe denke ich, dass es keinen besseren geben wird. Sehr detailiert und mit vielen Infos zu den Regionen und zum Camping in dem Westen der USA generell. Vor allem sehr empfehlenswert, weil er nicht wie einige Führer nur oder meisten RV Plätze aufführt, sondern er spricht grundsätzlich auch Zelt-Camper an.Auf Grund meiner letzten Reisen kann ich eine handvoll Beiträge auch bewerten und finde diese sind genau auf den Punkt gebracht. Die Scenic-Rate die für jeden Camping-Platz einzeln die Schönheit in der Region oder des Platztes beschreibt stimmt bei meinen paar Beispielen auch. Bei den Top-Ratings oder Besonderheiten hätte ich mir gerne ein paar Fotos gewünscht, auch wenn sie schwarz weiss wären. Aber das würde mit sicherheit den Rahmen sprengen.
