It's just OK
SpoilersIt was an OK read, there were parts that were riveting and I could feel the anxiety of the main character, so that part was good. There were slow parts, repetitive parts. The constant mention of misogyny, while a real issue, was over the top and mentioned in places it didn't fit. The constant repetition of the description of the murders really bogged it down. I could figure out the basic plot after the murder in Chile, I knew Kristen was going to end up being a serial killer or thrill killer, I'd have enjoyed a bit more subtlety in that regard. The ending was very rushed and glossed over. So much repetitive clunk in the middle and then at the end, when the worst actually happens, they're found out, we get a summary on the fall out and then it's all wrapped in a pretty bow. There were good parts of this book. Plenty of suspense and anxiety you could feel. I'd have enjoyed more of it without a few needless chapters in the middle.

Exciting and Thrilling Book
I am an avid reader. I can read a novel in about a day. Because I read so many books, it is hard to excite me with a story line. This novel did. It was exciting and thrilling. I highly recommend. I have loaned this book out to several friends and they all agree. A good book!

An Engaging Thriller
Definitely a page turner as the story unwraps the friendship of two women who love to travel. The slow reveal of who the friends truly are kept me engaged throughout. Although the resolution was a bit underwhelming for me and still left a lot unanswered and several lose ends in my opinion. I would still recommend the story to those liking a good mystery thriller.

Mind twists
This book never let up on the suspense and twists. Scarily believable twists that had me reacting with a "Yikes!"

An ok read, nothing special.
This book centers around the toxic friendship of 2, almost 30 year old women who have been BFF’s since college. However, the way they behave and talk, they seem better suited to be high schoolers. I am not sure if It was supposed to come off that way, or if the author just doesn’t have the wonderful, thought provoking, can’t put it down, creative writing style one would think it would be, considering this was recommended by Reese Witherspoon’s book club. The same book club that endorsed Little Fires Everywhere (a beautiful, scary, heartbreaking book that really examines mother-daughter relationships); the same club that raved about Where The Crawdads Sing (this book is written so well it’s like you are actually there in the marsh with Kya - if you haven’t read this book yet - read it!!) - We Were Never Here is nothing like those stories. It was slow to start, picked up a little speed in the middle, then came crashing down for an ending so twisty and turns it almost gives you whiplash. The author wanted to shock us and keep us guessing until the end, and she did, but I wouldn’t necessarily call that a good thing. The last pages made the book an ok read. But overall, it was slightly disappointing. This is the kind of book you read on an airplane, or when you have nothing on your bookshelf that you find appealing. The thought was there but the execution was an amateur attempt.

Beautifully written suspense, decent ending.
The author has a way with language, metaphors, similes, and may have memorized the thesaurus. There are no standard descriptions here. Good story, well plotted suspense. The ending was massive and could've filled an entire other book but instead was shrunken into a few pages, which I get but still I'd almost wished it went a different way. But I'm not the author so whatever. Recommend.

Schleppend
