The transition for school ending and summer break beginning can be a very difficult one for kids on the autism spectrum. They are used to their routines and the people in their life during the school year and really depend on this sameness and predictability. A social story can help explain that this routine is going to end and another one will begin. You can begin reading this social story prior to school coming to an end to help ready them for this change in daily routine. This book can help ease the transition for your child to let them know school is finished until next fall, but that summer can be fun! There will be a different routine, but also reassure them that they will go back to school in the fall and see all their friends, have new teachers, etc. This is a great tool to be able to prepare your child for the end of the school year. This book has the added benefit of PECS Sentence Strips. This provides the additional benefit of attaching a picture to every word in the story. Because children with autism think in pictures, they also learn in pictures.
