Intriguing YA mystery!
Kacey, Jade and Bailey are close friends. They do it all together, a true all-for-one-and-one-for-all team. Until Bailey goes missing. That’s when secrets unfold, and darkness surrounds the small midwestern town, where everyone knows everyone else’s business, except for the truly important things, like the reasons a girl goes missing out of the blue. Kacey is the expendable one of the trio. Bailey and Jade had been friends since childhood, and Kacey wormed her in. Bailey seemed interested in Kacey all of a sudden. Why is that? So many motives, so many suspects, but no answers. While the mystery unfolds, Kacey’s world crumbles, and she must face her lurid past in ways she never allowed herself to do so before. In doing so, she must come face to face with her “other self,” the one nobody knows about...LITTLE MONSTERS intrigued me from beginning to end. You feel the sense of menace from the moment you read the first page, and you can’t help but wonder what lies beneath these girls. The stakes are high, the motives are on point, and the red herrings emerge as if from nowhere. All is well done! Kara Thomas sure knows how to build a mystery plot. She reminds me of recent favorites, like Gillian Flynn, Lisa Jewell and Ruth Ware. We need more authors like this in the YA arena. I count myself fortunate to have written two wonderful YA mysteries, but I am moving on to other endeavors.Downsides? The plot twist at the end. While it’s disturbing and well executed, I just didn’t like the 180 degree turn on a character in particular. I wasn’t sold on the character’s motives at all. All in all, I enjoyed this book and recommend it. Four out of five butter cookie lattes, with extra oatmilk foam!

I loved it. The characters in this book felt very ...
What a wild ride this book was. With every page turn I had a new theory about what was going on because these characters just kept me guessing. Which is exactly what you want from a mystery thriller. In fact I was kept guessing until the very end. I loved it.The characters in this book felt very real. Many of them are teenagers and many of them act like it. Sometimes they act irrationally and a lot of the time I want to jump in the book and just shake them for the decisions they were making. But this made me love the book even more. The characters just so human. All and all I just devoured this book. I absolutely loved it and cannot wait to see more from Kara Thomas.

Big Little Lies + Urban Legends + Slumber Party
Big Little Lies + Urban Legends + Christopher Pike’s Slumber Party (let’s see how many other Point Horror Fans there were/are)Kacie is just getting to know her dad. After her and her mother having a tumultous relationship (to put it lightly), she moves to Wisconsin to live with her dad, stepmother, stepsister, and stepbrother. She works at her stepmom’s restaurant on weekends. She has found friends in Bailey and Jade. The night after the three friends (with Kacie’s stepsister, Lauren, tagging along) have a seance at the creepy barn where a massacre occurred, Bailey disappears. Kacie starts to question every thing and every one she thought she knew. Who could have done this horrible thing? What happened to her friend??Another 5-star!! I REALLY had to force myself to put down the book and not binge it! This story is masterfully told! I especially love the alternating stories between Kacie’s present-day and Bailey’s journal entries. I suspected the twist once early on, but quickly dismissed it because Kara does a BRILLIANT job of throwing red herrings out there, making you latch on to that and feeling so smart until you’re gobsmacked later on!Kara said this is based on a real-life case. PRETTY sure I know which one, but don’t want to spoil anything for y’all! It’s a good one though, I’ve seen it several times in my shameless obsession with Investigation Discovery!Cannot wait to read The Darkest Corners and especially The Cheerleaders!!Buy this for yourself or anyone looking for a brilliant YA psychological thriller. Or, if you’re twisted, for someone who always feels like the third wheel.

A Captivating and Creepy Thriller Perfect for Fans of PLL
LITTLE MONSTERS is a riveting new YA thriller full of mystery, manipulation, and unexpected twists. I was absolutely enthralled by this story. It kept me up late reading, and then it kept me up late, because I was just too creeped out to sleep! With a cast brimming with unreliable characters, including the narrator, I can certainly see where the PRETTY LITTLE LIARS comparison comes into play. Though I do feel that Kacey was a much more likable protagonist than those characters. She has such genuine love and concern for her family, which made her relatable and likable despite the darkness she keeps hidden inside.I loved all the red herrings scattered throughout this story. They certainly kept me guessing right up until the very end. I also really enjoyed the fact that while this is certainly not a paranormal or fantasy story, Broken Fall's local urban legend does play a prominent and super creepy role in the story.I had so much fun reading this book and definitely feel like it will be a hit amongst both YA and adult readers of the mystery/thriller genre.

Mature content. In my opinion this book is not for young readers.
I didn’t know how to rate this book, so I’ll meet in the middle. This book was on a list given by my daughters Jr high school for a required summer reading program. I honestly don’t know if the book is good or not as I couldn’t get past the language and content. I did not allow my daughter to finish reading it. My daughter is 12 years old and I personally think this book is geared for older more mature readers.

Brilliant!
I thought i knew where the plot was heading and who the culprit was....boy was i suprised!!!To be honest i took my time with this, you can easily read it in 2 days but i stretched it out. I felt like i knew how it was going to end based on the style of writing but there were some great character suprises! Genuinely loved it and highly recommend.

There's nothing quite as mean as a teenage girl.
For lovers of Megan Abbott, Laura Lippman & Gillian Flynn, LITTLE MONSTERS delves into the not so nice aspects of modern day teenage girls.Forget the sugar and spice, these mean girls may be at high school but they're thinking and scheming some very grown up thoughts, with some very scary solutions.Better than your average psychological thriller, Kara Thomas weaves the breakdown of the traditional nuclear family and examines the effects of those changing role models on the children. The proof is in the pudding has never seemed such a scary prospect.A 'read-it-in-one-sitting' book.
