2014 release, a 10-song virtual "greatest hits" set of acoustic renditions of songs from across the BOH catalog, recorded at Nashville's legendary Ryman Auditorium over two magical nights in April 2013. Having captured this two-night stand's worth of singular performances that the Nashville Scene said "brought to mind the best efforts of Eagles and Crosby, Stills and Nash," Band of Horses set about translating the energy and electricity of the Ryman document into the closest possible experience to having been there. Using the latest hardware from DSD recorder manufacturers Mytek, Band of Horses mixed the record in the band's hometown haunt of Charleston Sound. As a result, Band of Horses: Acoustic at the Ryman is one of a mere handful of non-Classical/Jazz albums mixed and mastered in the DSD format, capturing the ragged magic of an unforgettable performance in dangerously pristine quality.

So, this is an album for ESTABLISHED BOH fans
I agree with the previous review: this is an album for fans of Band of Horses. The track selection is great to me. However this is because I already know the songs well and have a connection to most of them. It is indeed ACOUSTIC as the name implies. It is very intimate and every nuance is quite audible as the vinyl was cut from DSD master. I will invest time in this album over and over again. If you are a newcomer to Band of Horses, I invite you to follow their progression chronologically (Everything All the Time; Cease to Begin; Infinite Arms; Mirage Rock; and THEN Acoustic at the Ryman). Having said that, do it all RIGHT NOW! You are missing out a lot! Step 1: Quit your job or school. Step 2:Gather currency Step 3: Buy or download all of it, then play it all. Right now. Step 4: Thank me later.

Really like it
I usually don't like live albums because the sound isn't great, and for a lot of bands, the vocals are weak or buried. Not so here. Lots of nice harmonies and understated instrumentation. Excellent vocals as well. It's a real test of a band if they can pull off the acoustic thing and these guys do that. One of the best acoustic live albums I've heard in a while. Recommended!

Don't read the Pitchfork review
They paint such a negative view of this album with no helpful information. Best review was Paste. Here's what I think: Made me give their 2012 cd "Mirage Rock" another chance because I like the live version of "Slow Cruel Hands of Time". Another reviewer stated that you may not like it as much if you didn't know the songs. I think it's ok to not know everything, these versions are so different, you may not immediately recognize them anyway. I would advise that you buy the first album, "Everything All the Time" BEFORE getting any of the other Band of Horses. It very interesting to play this live album on "random" mixed in with the studio releases. It is a good contrast, and a good way to really see how the songs were reworked. I rate this a solid four, but it'd be a three if you don't like slower tempo songs.

Loved it Live still great now
I had the privilege of being at the Saturday night show when they recorded this album they opened with the acoustic set and then played an electric show. it was absolutely amazing then, and I've been reliving the experience all evening playing this album on repeat. It was definitely one of the best shows I've been to, and it made me a fan of the band. Every bit of this album is wonderful lI love the sincerity and emotion in every song.

Piece of history.
I love BOH with a passion, but have found a few flaws in live shows, as I am a super critic at times, but this amazing live document is as I would have hoped and imagined they would be recalled during a live performance. The "Ryman" doesn't hurt the situation, being that it is one of the top places to preform live in, but all together, with the set list and mood - stunning.Haven't loved a live record in a LONG time, this is on rotation on my record player weekly-!Enjoy.

Wonderful live, wish I was there!
Amazing album, especially for a live performance. The audio quality is fantastic and I have been enjoying the acoustic versions of album songs. I only recently found this band (mostly because of the "Sing into my Mouth" with Sam Beam, but ever since I've been grabbing their music or streaming through Prime. Get it, you'll enjoy (btw "Factory" sounds amazing on this album)

Loved this unplugged version of Band Of Horses songs
Loved this unplugged version of Band Of Horses songs. The band is tight and the songs are beautifully done. The harmonies are perfect and gorgeous. The recording process(high-resolution Direct-Stream Digital) coupled with this legendary venue make for an impressive sound. Stand outs for me are Everything's Gonna Be Undone and Older. Ben Bridwell genuinely seems humbled by the bands success and appreciative of the responses from the audience. His "Thanks y'all" between songs sounds like its direct from the heart.

could be better
First off, I love this band. I would highly recommend any of their stuff. I think this album CD is very, very good but it seems sort of incomplete. Maybe it's me but with live albums I like to hear everything, the intro, the banter between songs and this is just the songs live one after the other. Still it's great but could be a little bit better

Great recording
Cards on the table, BoH are my favourite band so I naturally love this to bits. This is, though a superb live recording that captures the nuances of their performance really well. Acoustic versions of some of their finest songs, brilliantly performed and superbly engineered. "Neighbor" and "The Funeral" really stand out from what is already a great set of songs.
