Nebula Awards Showcase 2017 Paperback – May 16, 2017

I buy this book every year. In past years I've bought ti in paperback, but the print was so small in the 2016 edition that it was hard for my aging eyes to deal with. So this year I bought the Kindle edition - much better ! I love my Kindle..

An outstanding collection of science fiction short stories from 2017. For those interested in reading short story scifi without having to work through all the published and unpublished mass, this is a good way to enjoy recent sci fi short stories of merit. While not all are any one individuals cup of tea, they are all of merit.

The Nebulas are getting to be more stylish and fanciful than I like, but still worth a read

Interesting stories, some I have actually already read. I like the list of past nebula awards that is part of the book.

What's with all the excerpts? I wanted complete stories.

I did not like every story in here, but the ones I did like were fabulous.

In this excellent collection, there is something good and compelling for virtually anyone who likes short stories, novellas, novel excerpts or poetry from the realm of science fiction and fantasy. Nebula Awards Showcase volumes have been published annually for 51 years to highlight the winners of, and nominees for, Nebula Awards, determined by members of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. The 2017 edition offers approximately two dozen stories, excerpts, and poems. They focus on a wide range of characters and topics, from a truly intelligent, AI-powered app that (1) tries to help humans avoid getting harmed and (2) likes to be rewarded with cat pictures to why one should consider having sex with aliens. One of the most engaging features of the book is that the authors are given some space to describe why and how they created their prizewinning or prize-nominated tales, and you read this up front, right before you are drawn into the flow of each work.(My thanks to Pyr Books for providing an advance reading copy for review.)
