It tastes bad because it is soap. It works because it is soap.
People have given this product bad ratings because it tastes bad. It tastes bad because it is essentially soap or more precisely an anionic surfactant. It works by breaking up the stuff you want broken up in your bowel just the way soap breaks up other unpleasant stuff. Such surfactants are among the safest and gentlest ways to get the go going. Docusate Sodium has, as part of its chemical makeup, a sulfate anionic functional group, or in fancy chemists terms, Yuck!. Of course this will not harm you; just because something is a chemical certainly does not mean it will harm you. Everything you eat is a chemical. But, it does mean that it will taste a bit worse than when your mom washed your mouth out with Dial, as evidently far too few moms do these days. We bought this product because the gel caps elicit a gag reflex when my wife takes them. So there are two reasons to buy this preparation instead of the gel caps, first you should get it if you cannot for some reason take the gel caps, unfortunately not an uncommon problem. Secondly, it is dose for dose less expensive than the gel caps, a big factor if you are on long term pain therapy. But, if you really cannot stand the taste and you cannot take the gel caps, there is an alternative. Ducolax comes as a suppository, so stick it and stop whining.

True ear wax solution
Me and my kids have ear wax. It's been an on-going battle, listening to the pediatrician lecture..., devising my own remover with bent/coated paper clip...lol. I finally made my own problem worse by cleaning out with a q-tip after a shower. I had severe dizziness and nausea. Went to see a doctor who said he couldn't see the ear drum due to wax - at least, no sign of infection. He told me to try Colace liquid. No such thing at the pharmacies. Young pharmacists did not even know what it was. This works. It is a watery pink-ish liquid and does not stain the skin. It tastes like diluted cherry cola, and leaves a bitter taste even after rinsing and my throat was irritated for about 30 minutes. This definitely affects wax. The cold paper cup became wet (turned clear?) after about an hour. I used medicine dropper to fill the ear and after 15 minutes, drain and fill again - for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Then I used bulb ear irrigator with warm water and I think I removed much of the wax. I no longer have stuffy feeling after getting the ear wet and during irrigation, the water drained and left me with that full hearing.I like to thank everyone who reviewed and answered my questions. I was encouraged to try this only after hearing from them.

Awesome ear cleaner!!!
I use this to clean my ears, and whoa does it work wonders. Thanks to the review from "Doctor Disney Fan" Ipurchased this to clean a very impacted ear. This was a severe case, with almost all of my hearing blocked, with pain.I also purchased ear droppers and the safety ear syringe, both available on amazon. I place half a dropperof Docusate Sodium in the affected ear, and with my head titled, waited 20 minutes. I then used the ear syringeand warm water to flush it out, and TADA, it cleared out ALL of the cerumen(ear wax) from my ear. Ironically, my usage ofHydrogen Peroxide, had only made it worse. The hp, apparently doesn't react to the fatty lipids component of the ear wax.So I essentially built a wax ear plug. This bottle will last me quite a while, but I will now, never experience a painfully blockedear again. If you have persistent blockages, for whatever reason, this stuff is your miracle in a bottle.

A Taste That'll Empty Your Stomach's Contents From the Wrong End
I just gave birth and had a hard time going to the bathroom postpartum. I also have a hard time swallowing pills, so I gave this a shot. Unfortunately it's so foul tasting that I'd rather struggle to swallow a pill than take one more dose of this. It's going in the garbage after trying it once.

I'd love to know how people are able to ingest this ...
This liquid is so bitter it is unusable for my child. I tried it and it was awful. So bitter and left a burning sensation in my throat. Mixing just 5ML In 8oz of apple juice didn't make it something a 7 yo could drink. I'd love to know how people are able to ingest this liquid. However, I cannot comment in the effectiveness of the product since it couldn't be taken on a daily basis (really, not at all after the first try).

Be forwarned. You must mix this first. Do not take it alone. Muah ha haa!!
This tastes like vitameatavegamin. I got this for my daughter who had her tonsils removed. This seemed convenient for swallowing. X-nay! Imposter! LOL! It looks pink and for a millisecond, tastes like bubblegum...wait for it. I am NOT picky. This made me cringe. Okay, in their defense, it does say to take with 6-8 oz of milk or juice. Well, if I didn't like it, I did not expect my daughter to like it. I merely took a sip just to see. And MAN oh man was it unpleasant. Like bad medicine. So, I mixed it with my daughter's starbucks drink. To hide THAT flavor. Nope. She grimaced and didn't finish. I don't blame her. Stay constipated I say. lol!! TMI. I know. But if you're reading this, you must be too. js. Take the stool softener by Kirkland's brand - 400 ct, 100mg. And wait.

Works great for earwax removal
I bought this for earwax removal and it does exactly that! My son had such bad earwax buildup he couldn't hear. We put this in his ears once a day, let it sit for 15 minutes, and then rinsed it out - for three days. Wow the amount of yuck that came out of his ear was vile. The best part of it all was that he could hear again after we were done!
