Great light, with its limitations
Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of Surefire ‘illumination tools’ (what I refer to as ‘flashlights’). Between me and my family (4 of us) we now own 10, of which 6 are mine. Additionally, I’ve purchased several as gifts. I’m not law enforcement- just a consumer who appreciates quality, and in the event that the sh*t should ever hit the fan, I want lights that will work. Surefire lights are expensive, but look at who uses them- police, military, etc. You’re either willing to pay for the comfort that you’ll have a quality light in a time of need, or you’re not. Make the decision and move on.In fairness, I just received this R1 intellibeam flashlight a couple days ago. I wasn’t going to spend $250 on another 1000 lumen light (already own the P3X Fury 1000 lumen dual output light). However, there was recently a temporary price decrease to $202 on this R1, so i thought, what the heck... I can always return it.Here’s my layman’s assessment.Pros:- larger that P3X - a more substantial light.- Rechargeable. Save money on batteries. If your job requires frequent use of this (or any) light, and you have consistent access to a power supply (wall or car charger), this is terrific.- Intellibeam. Fantastic. Auto-adjustment of beam is rapid and impressive. Really like it.Cons:- no CR123 ‘magazine’. Just one rechargeable battery. If the battery is exhausted, gotta wait till it’s recharged. Not cool, Surefire should correct this, pronto. If you’re outdoors for any extended period of time, this light may well NOT cover you. We should absolutely be able to use this flashlight with standard backup batteries. Yes, it does come with a car charger, what if you’re camping, there’s a power outage, or are otherwise unable to plug-in?- Intellibeam - while I praise it on the one hand, without an option for a fixed nominal-lumen setting (i.e. 15 lumens) it could, and likely would, run your battery dry by utilizing more than the a minimal lumen level. This supports my point re: the need for a CR123 battery ‘magazine’ as a backup.- Non-Adjustable Presets. The options are: 1. Intellibeam (self-adjusting, and non-adjustable) 2. High/Max Beam (all 1000 lumens) and 3. Strobe- Must twist (fully tighten) tail cap for the light to remain on without holding the tailcap button down (otherwise, it’s just press and release). Why?? Perhaps there’s a tactical reason for this that someone can provide? The button near the head of the flashlight powers the light into constant-on. Press once for intellibeam, again for high (1000 lumen) only, and a third time to power ‘off’. The strobe feature is only available from the tailcap button. My verdict? I’m keeping the R1. It’s a great light, however, with its limitations. I have others that pick up where this leaves off. Recognizing the cost for Surefire flashlights is high, and that most people would be happy with just one good flashlight, if I had to choose just one get my family through a crisis situation, it would NOT be this light. I would select one of Surefire’s CR123 battery-powered lights. Probably, my dual output P3X Fury. Surefire’s CR123’s have a 10 year shelf life, so I’ve got an ample supply of those, and trust them to keep my light powered, should recharging not be an option.

Intellebeam will save your eyes!
I bought 2 of these (one for me and the other as a Christmas gift). I have 4 other surefire lights and the one I opened works just as expected. I have the p300x which is also 1,000 lumens and it will blind you if the room is dark and you flash light on a close wall. You have to be careful with that light when operating indoors. This light, however, handles that problem magnificently. It automatically, rapidly adapts the brightness based on how much light it "sees". I had an issue with the cap button on the bottom not turning the light on, despite rotating the cap as instructed. For some reason, after having the battery in for about 15 minutes it started working fine. I also had an issue with shipping. I paid for expedited shipping but the product arrived 2 days later than advertised. Despite this being a problem with USPS and not the vendor, they still took care of me. Great product and great vendor. If you want a ridiculously bright light, get this one and buy it here as they are ~$80 cheaper than their competition.

IntelliBeam Works as Claimed
I needed a flashlight. This was on sale. It works. I must say I am impressed with the IntelliBeam technology and it was fun to illuminate a tree line a quarter mile away. With IntelliBeam I found I can adjust the brightness by partially covering the edge of the lens with my fingertip.I am embarrassed I spent $211 on a flashlight. I didn't need a $211 flashlight! I would never have paid the $440 list price. Probably a bargain if you are a commando. Though as I said, I needed a flashlight, this was on sale, it works.

Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and a Beast. Great for up close work, Intellibeam gives enough light without blinding you. Point the beam to a distant dark corner and unleash the beast of the flashlight. Serves my needs as an engineer, daily. Came sealed in the factory box with all Surefire brand chargers and such. Looks and works like the Surefire brand that I know well.

It is a solid flashlight and is excellent for law enforcement work
I purchased this product in January 2018. It is a solid flashlight and is excellent for law enforcement work... However, after 4 months of fair use, the light's battery will not take a charge. This is the fourth light i now know that has this problem... I spoke to Surefire's Tech Support and they are respectfull and very easy to work with... I would buy again, but disappointed with the battery...

Best LE flashlight on the market
Have used everyday on the job for a couple weeks now and could not be happier with the way the light has performed. The beam is super bright and is able to completely light up large areas but then dims when used against a license or anything reflective. Only downside to this light is the price.

Top tier duty light
This light has become my all around duty light. It’s small enough to run on my body armor in an extended pistol taco. But it’s more powerful and reliable then the 4D sizes Streamlight my PD runs in our patrol cars.

Next Generation Flashlight
Intellibeam works as advertised. The sensor monitors reflected light and will auto-adjust lumen output. Helps conserve battery power!BTW: surefire will ship for free the CR123 Adaptor if you call themP.S. Got mine $197 during Amazon Black Friday sale.
