great value
I got two of these enclosures for 2.5" HDs i scrapped off my old laptops. they worked just fine, no tools, no hassle. very good material (could be a tad bit more polished, design wise - edges are a bit too angular) no drivers needed for both PC (tried it on an old XP, 7, and 10) and mac (El Capitan OS - read-only since i formatted it as NTFS). when used on USB 3 plugs it zipped through as expected, and was limited to USB 2 speeds on older ports. great product for a great price.

good product
I have 2-3 of these types of enclosures and this is one of the best I've seen. It comes well packaged and includes the case and a usb cord. It's easy to take the case apart, it does have a snug fit, it appears well well made and when I put in either a normal 2.5 inch hard disk or an SSD, it's easy to close the enclosure and when you connect the cable to the drive and to your computer Windows automatically recognizes the drive and there is a little white light that lights up on the drive while it's running. I used it to close a normal HD to an SSD drive and it worked like a champ. After installing the SSD into my laptop, then install the older HD into the enclosure to use it as an external backup device. Good product, good price, fast shipping, highly recommend, would buy again.

Works as promised.
It's not particularly quiet, not more so than one I already have and the auto standby function is not working for me. I bought it to connect to a Channel Master Stream+ as DVR storage and it is not sleeping, which is the only reason I bought it. Not happy with it. One review claimed it is very quiet, but up close you can hear HDD noise. Of course, if you use a SSD it would be quiet, silent actually.Update: after speaking with Channel Master I learned the Stream+ device is designed to keep external hard drives constantly active, so it must be defeating the sleep mode in the case. Wish I had known before I bought this, since I already had one and that one at least has an on/off switch. The cost of this is too low to justify a return, so I'll just hang onto it. I changed my rating to 3 stars. I don't think the build quality is all that great, so I think three stars is about right.Yet another update, just to keep it fair, ha ha:I have discovered that if I use a different drive in the enclosure with my Stream+ (in this case a SSD) the case works as promised and contrary to Channel Master support the Stream+ will wake a sleeping SSD to record a program. I have changed my rating to 4 stars, not 5, because I still don't think the build quality is worthy of 5.

One of the worst product I ever buy in Amazon
First if all you need to know that I am techie guy, so, I know what I am doing. The case itself is made of aluminum, is ok, the plastics clips are incredibly cheap and the support where you allocate the disk is even cheaper, once you put the disk if you want to remove you feel that you will break the whole thing. In terms of functionality, is even worst, is TOTALLY useless, I tried 3 different disk which works perfectly ok with other carries, with this, only worked for 3 seconds. The status led is blinking sometimes and sometimes keep on, but you could boy interact with the drive. In the best of the cases, you can see the disk, but you cant do nothing.I tried on 2 different computers with 3 different disks, always the same result.By far, the worst purchase that I ever made on Amazon.

Looks nice but locking mechanism is weak.
The Aluminum housing looks really great but the reason why i'm not giving this a good review is because after pulling the tray out a few times it became loose. The locking mechanism on the side is just plastic and it doesn't retain it's shape. So if I were to pull lightly at the ends the tray would just come out.

Easy to use and change out drives
This has been probably one of the best cases I've ever had it works flawlessly I bought a couple of them for work and we're veRyan happy with them. Every one loves them. Easy to use. Good quality and sturdy. Highly recommended.

Great, easy to use.
This is a great enclosure. It's easy to open/close and easy to insert the drive. I'm using it with a Crucial 1TB SSD.

EASY INSTALLATION - GOOD PERFORMANCE
Easy installation. I own a couple of these and will be buying at least 4 more. I also own two other brands of tool-less enclosures—one poor quality and the other good quality but really difficult to swap out drives. With this Salcar you simply squeeze the two little tabs, one on either side, and slide the cover off; then you slide the drive onto the insert and slide the cover back on. That easy. Because the outer case is aluminum it offers good protection from dropping, or stepping on if you drop and then step on it. It's great for SSDs as it has UASP support and that really does increase the transfer speed. However, I am using these almost exclusively for backups to older 7200 RPM SATA laptop hard drives and I get 35-40 MB/s when plugged into USB 3.0 powered hub; for backup that's fine.
