Great performing RGB/SCART converter for retro consoles
Got this to convert a SCART signal from my Sega Genesis RGB/SCART cable to HDMI.At first, it looked like the product was defective as the TV was not getting a signal when connected to the device. However, it worked on all my other displays so I troubleshot the issue. It worked fine when I switched the HDMI port mode from 'Auto' to '2.0a' on the port settings on the display. So, if you have a 4K TV, you may need to manually set the port mode in order for it to work. The quality itself of the picture is great - I found the crispest image for the Genesis was 1024x768. For the cash, you really can't beat this if you don't want to fork out 10 times as much for a Framemeister, or don't want to buy a dedicated CRT screen that will natively take a SCART input. For those that noted the display is off center when used with a retro console ('jailbar' effect), this is not the converter device doing this - a standard AV hookup from my Genesis also showed the jailbars. This is because the jailbars are outside the viewing range of a standard CRT, so its an artifact of viewing an old console on a modern flat panel. If I was to have one complaint, it would be that the device needs a constant DC power source and constantly displays an output signal even if there is no input. Due to this, a power switch would be useful to negate the need to keep unplugging it to save power when not in use.

Very affordable way to use SCART on HDTV's!
(**UPDATE** Several months later: The problem with the screen going black hasn't stopped, it still happens once in a while. Doesn't happen often enough to be unusable, but still a flaw.) As an alternative to the framemeister, this is a very affordable solution. I only got it today, and just tried using it with my SNES SCART cable to HDMI. The options on this item are very basic, but I was happy that it let me select different resolutions/refresh rates. For SNES, I tend to use 800 x 600, 1024×768, and 1280 x 1024. All other resolutions force the image into widescreen mode, which I don't like. The output is very clean and solid- didn't see any noticeable shaking or flickering in the image. Colors look very rich. Also I didn't hear any humm or buzzing in the audio. The only serious problem so far is that the image went black after about a minute of play time. I don't know if this was due to a lose connection or something else. It's happened a couple of times, but randomly. So I don't know if it's a real problem or just my set-up. For the money, it's definitely worth it, unless you have $300 extra bucks to spend on a framemeister. PS- this item let's you go from SCART to HDMI, and the reverse- it allows both directions, although the title implies it just does one direction.

Great Features Marred by Limited Design
As someone who bought this for gaming on retro consoles, I knew what I was getting into despite cheaper options lacking the built-in buttons, or more expensive options like the OSSC that give a satisfactory performance. But I figured I can get around the flaws if I planned well enough, as lag is tolerable (1-3 frames as determined by My Life In Gaming) as well as some blurring during damage. Better than composite and only $30 + Scart and HDMI cables, so what's there to lose?Adapter compatibility, that's what. After buying 2 adapters to compensate for S-video input missing, the adapters are too large to fit in the slot. Even regular Scart cables barely fit into the slot with the power cable in the way, which has no reason to be except bad PCB board design. This leaves only a male to male extension cable as an option for adapters, which is sadly an unexpected investment. However, you do get several pictures, as you can choose between 50/60hz refresh rate, several screen sizes (800x600 at 4:3, 1024x768 at 4:3, 1280x720 at 16:9 stretched, and 1080p at 16:9 stretched) that can be fixed with TV settings if your TV is good enough (mine wasn't), and an HDMI passthrough if you need another device plugged to your TV. And, once you get past the flaws, it's not enough to warrant a return.Overall, it's a worthy purchase is you only use one Scart cable and need the passthrough, but I can't help but feel disappointed by its DIY capabilities.

Great price to quality ratio.
If you are looking at this product then you are probably a gamer and you know there are 2 options: expensive or cheap. For the price you are paying, this is a nice little converter. Image quality is clear and its easy to use. Currently I am using this for my Sega Saturn and Genesis/CD/32x and it works great. There are a couple small downsides. The toggle switches are confusing and I still haven't figured out the trick. I wanted to go to a 720p picture but when you hit the toggle it goes all black and you have to try different buttons till the image pops back up. It's almost like the box resets when you change resolutions. At first I thought it was broken, but after some random button mashing, I got the picture to pop back up again. My only other complaint is that you can't do a 4:3 ratio without having some of the screen cut off, it just automatically upscales to your TV. It's not bad, but I would have preferred that ratio rather than have it upscaled to the TV. Its not awful, maybe a little wider than normal. Overall, unless you want to spend $300 this seems like one of the better options out there.
