Very handy
I use this pump to drain my garden fountains in the fall. The fountains have drainage plugs but the bilge pump allows me to empty most of the water in order to keep my hands out of the freezing water in October or November. The pump is not elaborate nor very sturdy, but it gets the work done. Wish I had purchased this years ago!

Easy to pump out water quickly
The Sailortenx bilge pump works pretty well for a basic design made with medium duty material. It is quite handy for close quarters draining of water. You could also extend the range if you get a longer hose. While the pump is made of a light and somewhat fragile looking plastic, with a questionably sturdy plastic piston that kind of bends, its performance is rather good. The included hose has a rubberish fitting on one end that can fit on either inlet or outlet. If you attach the hose to the outlet, the inlet has a kind of wavy crown around it about a 1/2 cm deep. That limits the water it can drain directly to down to about 1/2cm deep, so it can't fully drain all the water unless you use the hose on the inlet, but it drains pretty much most of the water. Once you prime the pump with a couple strokes, it can pump a gallon in about 4 easy strokes which is quite fast. It functions as most basic bilge bumps, with a one-way flap against the inlet, and a one-way flapper on the piston itself so pulling the piston draws in water, and pushing it forces the water up the shaft and out the outlet. The piston is very easy to pull, and it doesn't take much effort to pump, probably because the shaft has about the same diameter as the inlet which reduces the pressure needed to draw in water. I would say a 6 year old child would have no issues using this. The main concern I have is the sturdiness of the piston rod. It seems like a somewhat cheap plastic that flexes and is the most likely part to break first. Overall, I give it 5 stars for utility.

Don’t use with any water having dirt or grit
This pump worked well with clear water, but when I used it on dirty water, it completely clogged and froze up. The downside to this pump is that it can’t be taken apart for cleaning, it is sealed. If it could be disassembled, it would be perfect. Once clogged, it was useless to me.Back to Amazon.
