TC Electronic PLETHORA X3 with multiple effects

I haven’t tried with guitar yet. I already own the hall of fame reverb and flashback delay that are included as algorithms in the plethora (along with algorithms for TC’s other modulation and spacial pedals), but I may end up selling those on and keeping this. So far I’ve only used this as a space saving multi-fx to run analogue synths through, which it handles really well! There is plenty of headroom so takes a line-level signal without any unwanted distortion or overload. As I say, it includes all of TC’s current line-up of modulation and spacial effects. So no dirt pedals like overdrive, fuzz or distortion, but you do get loads of chorus, flanger, phaser, octave, pitch, delay, reverb, compression, noise gates etc. there are no amp models, this purely an effects unit. For analogues synths or synths without onboard effects, this is brilliant unit. I’m using in a home studio, but it’s really small and rugged metal, so would work super well for live keyboard players or DAWless jammers. Programming is pretty intuitive. You can also download many more TonePrint algorithms per included ‘pedal’ via Bluetooth or USB and the official TonePrint app on your computer/tablet/phone. Up to something like 70 TonePrint per pedal as opposed to like 5 slots you get in the standalone pedals. You loose a little bit of the immediate hands-on control of the standalones that obviously have single function dedicated knobs, where as in the plethora you have 3 knobs shared between all pedals. You have first flick switch into edit mode, select one of your 3 loaded pedals and the 3 knobs control whichever 3 parameters are assigned per pedal. This may seem a little annoying, but the fact that you can save loads of user pedalboards (each ‘board’ consists of 1-3 user selected pedals and all of their last tweaked settings.) makes up for this. One thing to look out for is that the unit automatically saves ANY tweaks you make to a user pedalboards board. There is no extra ‘are you sure you want to overwrite?’ step, so care should be taken to return settings to their original values in a user pedalboards board, if you don’t want the changes to be permanent.

This is probably one of the best guitar products I’ve ever bought. It turned my Marshall DSL5CR into a very versatile amp. I only play at home. It might have different reviews for people gigging but if you want a pedal that does most things without all the wires and messing around I can honestly say this is just heaps of fun. Add a Boss SD-1 and you have it all. I salute you TC Electronic. 🫡

Lovely effects unit and worth the cost. Takes a bit of learning to use fully but once you have the hang of it it's easy to get around. Well made, great sound quality and versatile.

The Plethora X3 is a great effects pedal for either Guitar or Bass. Small in size with big sounds. Also noticeable is its very quiet and noiseless signal. I’m very happy with this pedal. I have sold my HX Stomp and also my Zoom B3 since getting this great effects pedal.

Amazing purchase with too many presets, Great app as well for updating, uploading and downloading even more presets. It's insane how much is packed into this smaller version of the X5. Good for the money and a great add on to any pedalboard

Sounds way too digital and the hum this produces in your signal chain is just unacceptable. Not good for gigging guitarist

No problems with mine. Works great with the PC. Now includes Infinite Sample Sustainer which I have been wanting for some time as a standalone pedal. Im very happy with mine. I have an X1 and an X3 As far as comments re buzzing and noise this is a digital pedal and will need a true isolated power brick. Digital and analog pedals dont chain well using 'serires grounded' power bricks.

I bought this for use in the fix loop of my Hughes & kettner ampman modern for a compact minimalist pedalboard rig , without giving up any effects . The ampman has enough gain for me on the 2nd channel that no drives are required as the plethora x3 has no drives .That’s ok with me. I only have one drive pedal on this board (keeley super phat mod) and that’s for the first channel to give a little more grit for classic rock songs. Now the plethora x3 has up to 3 effects at a time and sounds great! I already had the tc electronic hall of fame and flashback delay but as they were old (15yrs) I thought I should get something to replace them but with more modern functionality. The X3 fills that need for time based and modulation effects as well as compression and a looper. The only thing I don’t love is the tuner there is room for improvement there. I’m used to Tc’s poly tune and the onboard tuner of the x3 is different. Also I which they could add a graphic eq pedal model. All in all the x3 is a great addition to this pedalboard , which is a great setup for rock and metal.

Sehr cooles Teil. Für den Preis unschlagbar. Ein einzelnes TC Effektpedal beläuft sich ja bereits auf circa 100 EUR. Man kann hier 3 Effekte gleichzeitig nutzen und auch erstellte Toneprints von bekannten Musikern nutzen. Die knapp 30 voreingestellten Boards klingen echt super. Ich arbeite mit den bereits vorhanden, aber wer sich bei digitalen Toneprints auskennt kannst hier sehr kreativ werden. Klasse Teil für wenig Geld, sehr zu Empfehlen!!! Falls hier Songbook Pro Nutzer sind, man kann das Effektgerät auch über MIDI aus SongbookPro ansteuern. So kann man über Presets das gewünschte Board zum entsprechenden Ablauf hinterlegen und zum Songwechsel die bereits hinterlegten Effekte laden lassen. So hat man zu jedem Song den speziell gewünschten Sound.

Took the plunge and bought the x3 based on the marketing from Plethora. We gig every couple of weeks so looking for an easy setup and a range of tones to compliment our set list (over 400 cover songs). The manual was VERY BASIC. I found a couple of good Youtube people who had played with it so was able to get underway with sounds. It would be good if Plethora made up a few vids on how to duplicate, erase, put favs in a row when going up and down etc etc The looper is sensational and even i am getting used to using it.....
