Incredible live trap; it works extremely well.
A little over a month ago, my wife and I started hearing (and, occasionally, seeing) a mouse running around our house. I'd always preferred to "catch and release" mice, so I bought a couple of the Victor Catch-and-Hold M333 traps at a local hardware store. I used all kinds of bait and tried putting them in different parts of the house where we'd had mouse activity, but never caught a thing. Eventually, I saw two mice running around together in our kitchen, taunting me, reminding me of what a failure these traps had been. It was humbling. I was not pleased. So, I read the great reviews for the Mouse Hotel and gave it a shot. I put a dab of peanut butter in the designated area, set the trap, and put it down in the lower part of our pantry. Within a few hours, we caught our first mouse, which I drove out to a nearby park to let it bound off into the woods. I brought the trap back home, set it again (without rebaiting), and put it back. It took less than an hour for it to catch the second mouse.I didn't rebait or clean the thing over the weekend; I just kept popping open the door (ridiculously easy to set), putting the trap down, and closing the pantry door. This is going to sound like an exaggeration, but it is not - to my surprise, between the Mouse Hotel's arrival on a Friday evening and the following Monday morning, that thing caught six mice, all of which I relocated to the woods. It is now very early on Tuesday morning, and a seventh mouse has just been caught. There's no chance that we've been catching any of the same mice repeatedly; the woods are too far away. I've considered tagging the mice's ears in the same manner that researchers tag wildlife just to be sure, but I figure that the mice would probably get annoyed with dragging a heavy plastic tag all over the place, so I've refrained.A couple of things I should mention to clear up any concerns you may have: The back end has a small "twist" lock that can easily be opened with your fingers from the outside to release the mouse without running any risk of being bitten or touching the mouse at all. Also, the spring on the door is strong enough to cause it to pop shut and easily trap the mouse inside, but it's not so strong that it could accidentally dismember or injure the mouse. In the course of my life, I have owned a few different types of live traps, and some worked better than others. I can say without any doubt that this is the best live mouse trap I've ever used, and I would recommend it without hesitation if you're looking for a safe, easy, and humane way to take care of a mouse problem. Awesome product.

Truly the Best Mouse Trap Ever
I have tried several humane mouse traps in the past few months and the Mouse Hotel is clearly the best, and interestingly the least expensive. I had been using the Havahart 1020 trap (about $16) for many years. This trap works great but is a royal pain to set. You first have to balance the bait on a small platform and then try to align two very narrow pins perfectly. It's almost impossible to set the first time and when it slips, the food comes off the platform. I then need to use tongs to get it back on (because my hand is too big to fit into the trap) and try again. Eventually I can set it, and it works pretty effectively except for the few times the tail is stuck outside the trap. Then I tried the Seicosy Trap ($12) which is much easier to set. However, there is no platform and you have to place the bait onto a suspended hook, which rules out using crackers or peanut butter. It occasionally works. Then I tried Casmac's Best Mousetrap Ever ($20) but not available on Amazon. The concept is great but doesn't actually catch any mice. It's also very large. Finally I tried the Mouse Hotel. Some people complained that there were no air holes, but now there are. Others complained that the mouse sometimes chewed through the plastic mechanism used to set the trap, but I believe that would only happen if you left the mouse inside for several days. I check daily, catch mice regularly, and have never had a problem. The trap is pure genius. Extremely easy to bait with a removable door at the rear, and absolutely simple to set. I can't imagine a better humane trap and at such a low cost.

Effective Live Trap, Easy to use, Easy to clean.
DrBob's wife writing this..I ordered this item. This is a nice and convenient little trap for catching mice in the house. It is pretty cheaply made though, but still still works nicely. The back door has a feed tray on it so that the mouse has to walk all the way in. The door is removable which is nice, but the little knob that turns the piece that holds it into the trap is pretty loose. I add a piece of scotch tape to make sure it doesn't come loose in the cupboard and open. One thing we did to improve this trap...and I hope the company reads this review and does this as well, is that we drilled small air holes in the roof of hotel. When the mouse is in there for a while it collects condensation and the mouse and hotel are pretty wet by the time it comes to release the critter. The air holes eliminate that problem and frankly give it some much needed air. To release the mouse all you have to do is turn the knob and remove the door.I like this trap, it is easy to use, easy to wash and easy to release the animal. It is also small enough that it fits easily in the cupboard without moving a lot of things around. I believe it fit in the kitchen drawers too.My only complaint is the lack of air holes for the mouse and the problem with the condensation.
