Beautiful Boundless
Tamakio’s Boundless is a beautifully rendered collection of short (graphic) stories that explore the concreteness of the flesh and femininity. This piece was an absolute pleasure to read, and while I hadn’t read Tamaki’s work before (regardless of what I know about her boundless reception and awards), as a Drawn and Quarterly book I knew it was going to be a great piece. The pieces range from the skincare routines of women, to the obsession men have over a certain film that their partners take on and eventually grow to form a resentful attachment to, to what it is like to finally take up less space, to the inner narratives of animals as they go about their existence. The artwork is strangely approachable and haphazard in a way, but the storytelling that reflects our own insecurities seem to beat through the vibrancy of every line. There seems to be something beautiful in its imperfection and speediness, and I truly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I got it for a dollar at the library book sale, and as a blind buy for a buck, I was wholly impressed at the strength of the experience this piece brought me. Beautiful Boundless is a can’t miss.

boundless is life itself
Boundless is a living, breathing book... a treasure-chest of modern stories, modern life. This book is Jillian Tamaki popping a wheelie on the alt-comics zeitgeist, proving not only that she's one of the few cartoonists that can actually articulate through story on the complexities of life in the internet age, but that the medium of comics is the best way to do that. There's an accessibility to these comics that make them invaluable because the reference point to these comics is life; you could give this comic to anyone and they would be understand and have an appreciation for these stories because they're grappling with things that everyone can relate to in one way or another, be that impulsively checking a FB page that you know is just gonna mess with your head or just steadily shrinking away from the life you knew...Tamaki's drawings are bursting with life, yet there's a tempered tone to the actual words and stories, a sort of pragmatism that allows Tamaki to delve into headspace in a way that seems very matter-of-fact, it's just the way it is, but by combining her lush illustration style with that coolness, a kind of story is born that manages the impossible task of summing up these kind of massive feelings that are hanging over all of our heads as we look down on at phones, and look into the worlds inside them, ourselves, and everything in between. Like most things on the internet, it feels very close and yet very far away...This is definitely a book though, an object...that's aware of itself, it feels more like playground than a graphic novel. It's a showcase of an artist who's completely comfortable, who is clearly just having fun and watching the art and story evolve as it goes along. You can see the act of creation in every page, and yet every time she still manages to leave you hanging on the last panel. It's a work about life itself, and it's a work that should be celebrated, bought, sold and liked online... but enjoyed in real life. Please do yourself a massive favor and get this book.

My kind of artsy graphic novel
I like this book. It's full of surreal dark comedy sketches. As someone who has had to deal with bedbugs, that story was almost too real. The drawings are unique, I like the techniques of drawing one line by drawing a whole bunch of little curvy lines. Interesting style. I also like the strange stories; they make me think I'm dreaming.

It sounded like something I'd find of note
Interesting, but not for me. It sounded like something I'd find of note, but no. I am sure it will resonate with lots of people, likely younger ones. Graphic novel.

Not Great
Was really disappointed. The book was so boring I'm struggling to remember what the stories were. The mirror facebook was really, really boring. It's almost like this slow burn psychological thriller that just goes nowhere. Once I got to the story about shrinking I just put the book down. And that weird stream of consciousness section in the beginning where you have to keep turning the book, maybe don't try experimental formats with mediocre stories? I borrowed this from the library and was disappointed, I feel sorry for anyone buying it.

I'd found it generally boring, depressing
I'm sure there's some people on the planet that will identify with and somewhat appreciate some of the stories in this book, in some way. I'd found it generally boring, depressing, narcissistic (to be fair, the book seems to be self aware of this), slightly pretentious at times. I mean if that is the point of the book, then well done, you have succeeded. But hey, maybe I'm just one of those people who does not understand or appreciate this type of literature, or maybe I have not experienced enough in life. I'm sure you'll like this if you loved Blankets or the Persepolis movie. To each his own. :-)

Excellent.
Lovely soft fabric and looks much more expensive than it was. Not see through so I can wear it round the house even if we have guests. Excellent.

Obsessed
I am obsessed with this book. The comic about MLM's is one of the most moving things I've ever read in my life. This whole book is incredible.
