Keb Darge & Cut Chemist present The Dark Side: 30 Sixties Garage Punk and Psyche Monsters

This is awful sounding; some of these tracks exist on other compilations without that horrible noise reduction that makes everything sound flat and uniform. Go do some comparative listening. Go read my review of the Real Sound of Chicago for a description of the sound of this….If it isn’t enough that everything on this CD sounds oddly uniform – except the last track, Track 30, where the sound quality for some odd reason jumps up to a more acceptable production…. I don’t know if this is a mistake or an insult, or tracks 1-29 are the mistake and track 30 is how it was supposed to sound....Look, they have been putting out great sounding, de-clicked records for decades. We don’t need these computerized flat sounding , destroyed recordings. Stick with the greats of garage: Pebbles, Back from the Grave, Garage Beat ’66 and others……this thing won’t add anything to your listening pleasure. The whole label needs to get a grip before they wreck something else....
