It works ok, BUT...
The photographs of this item misrepresent the variety of pitches that can be made, as there are only three different lengths of rods around the perimeter, repeating in a pattern like 1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1, where 1 represents the shortest rod and 3 represents the longest. You can shorten some of the longer rods with a hacksaw blade or bolt cutters, but for the price you really shouldn’t have to do so. But be careful if you try this yourself, as the rods are welded on, and the welds are flimsy. Probably made in China, so QC is minimal at best. Still, after the work I put in myself, it does what I want it to do, make eerie sound effects. If you know how to weld, get the parts and build your own. The price is just too high for this level of quality. If you’ve never worked with metal, look up the guy, still living, who invented water phones and buy from him. It’s worth the extra cost.

It's an incredible, amazing instrument!
Waterphone has an amazing, sharp and charming sound. In my opinion it is scary, but not only: it can offer a wide range of emotional possibilities. I am a professional musician, and I want to use it in concerts, performances, but also for Theatre and videos.

It's a real weird instrument. Basically you pay someone a lot of money for an instrument any jackass could make in their garage. Since you can't play music on it and the intent is just weird ass sounds... Would it really be any different if someone was black out drunk and made one? I don't think so... But hey, it's still neat. If you get mad that you can't make the sound you want, you can go into a rage and chuck it at a wall. It will sound the same as if you played it on purpose. So there's that.

I'm a sound designer and I loved adding this instrument into my collection and to have it in my pallet to colour sound design for all kinds of video/movie projects. Not just horror movies but also for commercial edits this can be usefull. Really usefull for me and very versatile if you're a bit creative in how you use it. Well worth the money for me, as I can also use it commercially. There were some issues with customs (who held the package) but it was quickly and swiftly dealt with with the help of the seller.

not the best
So the problem here is that they tried to make this instrument tuned to an interval....if you notice in the picture the spines are all very symmetrical. This should be an atonal instrument with the tallest spine at one end of the equator that gradually shrinking to smallest spine at the other end of the equator. This allows all notes and micro-tones.

It's okay. Not worth the price. If you're looking for this instrument, go somewhere else. That said, this is a decent intro.

Sounds barely well

Not like the professional model.
This was disappointing. Playing it with a bow is impossible to get any kind of sound that you can actually hear. Nice try, but not quite.
