It is way too powerful.Use an A or B size engine depending on the size of the rocket.The baby bertha which is my all time favorite rocket can handle a B size engine. Similarly sized rockets like those found in starter sets should use a A size engine.E engines are for very large rockets and also need much larger engine holders! **Q: how high does the e engine go?** A: How high an E engine will take a rocket depends on many things, including: 1. How heavy the rocket is 2. The shape and size of the rocket 3. The number at the very end of the E engine name (such as, in this case, E12-0) A heavy rocket will usually not fly as high as a lightweight rocket. So, without knowing how heavy the rocket is, it is hard to say how high the rocket will fly on an E engine. A skinny rocket will experience less drag - or wind resistance - than a fat rocket. So a skinny rocket may fly much higher on an E engine than a fat rocket. The number at the end is the "delay." That means that after the engine burns out, there will be a delay, in seconds, before the ejection happens, which makes the parachute pop out. The engines here are E12-0. That "0" means that there is no delay. These are only meant as "booster" engines in a multi-stage rocket. If you put one in a single stage rocket, as soon as the engine stops burning, the rocket will eject the nose cone. That means that the parachute will come out while the rocket is still flying very fast! This could tear the rocket apart. For a single stage rocket, you want an engine with a delay - such as an E12-4, E12-6 or E12-8. Those delays - 4, 6, and 8 seconds - will allow the rocket to coast while it's still traveling upwards after the engine burns out. Then, after a number of seconds, when the rocket has slowed down, the chute will come out. That being said, for a lightweight model rocket, an E engine can perform quite well. Some rockets can easily top 1,000 feet on an E engine. Check the package of the model you want to fly to get an idea of the altitude you will reach. And if you have a 2-stage rocket, this is a great engine for the first stage. **Q: Hi, can i use the e12-0 for the estes space shuttle 7246 or do i use the e12-4 engine? confused, thanks!** A: No because after the E 12 0 means it's a booster motor only and will burn up your parachute now E12 4 would be perfect..e 12-0 is a booster motor on a 2 stage **Q: I don't understand. E12-0. The burn time is 0 (zero)? What? it just explodes? That not a rocket. its a cannon.** A: This is a powerful booster stage engine. The "0" means there is no time delay, will ignite and go. Compare this to the E12-8, an upper stage engine.
