Beaitiful bit of kit
Lovely wee lighter. Very stylish. Click, flame, pipe lit, indoors or out in the wind. Pipe emblazoned on corner. Impresses folk. Practical. Indestructible. Value for money. Lifetime zippo free repair if somehow it malfunctions. You will need to reorganise the wick and cotton, as it comes in a bit of a mess. Put some love into it, an it's a great bit of kit. This one has pipe chimney and an open top, but comes closed in with a wee hole in the top too. Great bit of kit.

A pleasure to use
Can't fault the product. The price is good, delivery was swift. I collect Zippos so I had to have this one for the collection. I'm glad it was so cheap. Actually it may be the cheapest Zippo I've bought so far, wasn't expecting that. I can only find 4 examples of pipe lighting Zippos available, I'm sure there have been many models but they seem quite limited. Also, High Street shops selling Zippos tend not to have these (or Zippo Blu for that matter) so it seems online is your best bet. The style of the chimney is the only difference between this and the standard Zippo. It's the standard flint, wheel and wick set up. First off there are 2 big holes drilled in either side of the chimney instead of the usual series of small holes. There is also a small plate that clips onto the roof of the chimney. This can be removed for cleaning and maintenance purposes, removing it altogether gives you a standard Zippo (albeit with reduced windproof qualities which this lighter has anyway). The lighter is held horizontally to light your pipe. The 2 big holes in the chimney allow this to happen and that plate on top stops the flame taking it's usual route, it works effectively as soon as you start puffing the pipe. The only problem here isn't mechanical, it's a question of taste. Pipe smoke is not to be inhaled, just tasted. For best results it should also be lit with a match. When lighting cigarettes I find that first whiff of petrol to be part of the experience, some people don't like it, I love it. However, when it comes to smoking pipeweed this is obviously not what a pipe smoker wants. I can say that the taste sort of haunted me for about 2 days and then I couldn't taste the petrol anymore but that's the best I can say. It could be an issue for a serious pipe smoker.

Doesn't quite work
While maintaining a Zippo can be a bit of a chore; there is a definite art to replacing a wick and stuffing the balls back properly, they are simple, rugged and reliable and can last for years. This is undoubtedly true of the pipe lighter. Sadly, as a pipesmoker, I find the big hole in the side of the windshield doesn't really work: To get the flame to pass through the wick has to be trimmed short, at which point lighting gets a bit hit and miss and drafts blow it out. If the wick is trimmed longer, then the longer flame is nearer the top of the shield and will only pass through the hole when the lighter is upended, equalling hot fingers. So nice idea, but not really useful.

My favourite pipe lighter
It works well, is easy to refill, lights my pipe and chicks dig it ... ok, maybe not the last one. Its my favourite pipe lighter after having tried many butane and liquid lighter that either failed or nearly set my hand on fire! The Zippo is simple, reliable and practical and it doesn't cost the earth.

Ideal Pipe Lighter
Very pleased with this product as I have tried for years to get a pipe lighter that my husband liked. He is a devotee of Zippo and to find this lighter that is especially made for the pipe is great. It works like a dream every pipe smoker should try it, if they do not mind the smell of petrol.

excellent... worth waiting, though normal ones are available at similar price at out side. Pipe zippo is difficult to find in open market.

Valuable tool & Best pipe lighter.
Just take a second and enjoy reading those well written directions first. Good well written directions are sadly not as common these days. You might need a magnifying glass the print is small. Thankfully Zippo's high quality USA made lighters are built to last a lifetime and work as they should from day one. I really like the feel of that black coating because it has just enough tooth kinda like a chalkboard so it's not slippery in my hands. It wipes off nice if you get any grease or dirt in it. A lighter for everyone to use this is a wonderful tool for you that will make you feel proud possibly nostalgic too. When you use this lighter you are not contributing to planned obsolescence or toxic garbage causing pollution. You can replace a wick, re pack, replace flint, and re fill with ease. These are safer to carry and will treat you right. Yes you can recycle your empty Zippo fluid can. I prefer the pipe insert because it adds versatility to this lighter. Just as wind resistant as the others, and when you light your pipe no nasty butane or petroleum taste because these burn clean. Regular tobacco pipes to your posh Turkish water pipe this is the lighter you want. If you have one burning dirty or producing excess soot just adjust your wick a little or trim your wick carefully. Dont over fill your lighter. Use only fluid and flints specified by Zippo it will last longer. Works great for burning your nylon or polyester threads if you sew at home or in an industrial sewing setting like a upholstery shop. Love the pipe insert for lighting incense, lightng candles, lighting classic liquid fuel camp stoves, wick type kerosene lamps, camp fires, BBQ, lighting acetylene torches, propane torches, white gas blowtorch, lighting a coal forge, and even the kitchen range when that ignitor stops working. A few tips to improve your fuel efficiency. To stop any leakage and just wipe a little petroleum jelly or chapstick on the sides of the insert after filling your lighter. When you slide the insert back in just wipe away any excess and this seals them up. This helps keep dust or moisture out of your lighter. Importantly use safety, common sense, and teach others.

The Zippo lighter is bullet proof.
This was Zippo Pipe lighter designed specifically for lighting the tobacco in a pipe bowl. Excellent product made by Zippo. I still have my Zippou cigarette lighter that I purchased in 1960 Still works as good as new. Smoke a pipe now.
