I get absolutely no output from this device when HDMI in (or out, I tried both) is connected from my smart TV, on any channel. If what a previous review says about output not actually being 5.1 (but rather, upmixes), I'm betting that's the culprit, and my television just doesn't recognize the device as a result. Switching to 2.1 also did nothing.Just for fun, I also tried using an analog signal just to to see if the device was working at all. It does. Sort of. If the power's off. Weakly.Avoid this one.

Doesn't actually decode 5.1 sound to the analog jacks. I moved the switch to 5.1 and selected the 5.1 configuration on both Linux and Windows, but playing an .ac3 (Dolby Digital) 5.1 test file proved that it discards all but the left and right channels and upmixes those to 5.1. It can't be a faulty switch on the device, since moving the switch to 2 channel mode removed the option for 5.1 on my computer and sent sound only to the front left/right speakers.
