HomeAgain Plus Universal Microchip Reader with Bluetooth Connectivity

This universal chip reader is a high quality instrument (HomeAgain is a div. of Merck) which seems very solidly built. It is considered a "Universal Chip Reader", since it is capable of detecting the major chip wavelengths currently in use within the USA & elsewhere. Comes with clear set-up instructions, 6 AAA rechargeable NiMH batteries, wall charger, chip reader test chip, and sturdy carrying case with handle.

ridiculously expensive!! But it is a good device and reads all of the pet chips you are likely to see (does all three types/ranges). Had a cheaper scanner, but it was not able to read a particular chip type, so had to buy this one, but you can see the quality is much better & it does read all the chips.

My indoor cat escaped last fall, and was outside for 5 weeks and 2 days. I had humane traps set up in several locations, and wanted to make sure I didn't inadvertently trap and bring home someone else's pet (you don't realize how many cats look like yours until you start searching a 10-block radius). I bought this microchip reader to determine, with accuracy, whether I had caught my cat or someone else's. When I recovered my cat, I was able to quickly confirm her identity with a scan of her microchip. Wonderful peace of mind without having to drive to the vet to have them do it.
