Great for playing music, not so much for watching movies.
I mean, for what it is, the digital decoder works. The audio sounds good from optical signal, so it is perfect to listen to music through. However, it has audio lag. At first the lag is tolerable, but the longer it stays running the worse the lag gets. So if you want to watch movies in 5.1 through this, I wouldn't recommend it. If you need it to listen to music over 5.1, it is perfect for that application.

Works ok, given price I’m happy
Use with a Vizio E55, creative 7.1 pc speakers, Apple TV/PS4. Make sure to turn off “reduce loud sounds” in Apple TV settings. I used linear PCM Output setting and while sometimes there is distortion in the channels, in general it works well enough. Audio isn’t super crystal clear so don’t expect clean listening.

DONT BUY
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT! This cheap chinese junk does decode real 5.1 from optical, I have it reading Dolby surround from my LG smart TV. HOWEVER, its riddled with glitches and terrible power handling. If the volume levels get too loud the channels start to crackle and distort. Sometimes the product just makes loud noises then gives out, forcing me to turn it on and off again. This isnt just a defect with my product, ive purchased 2 and they both have the same problems. The board on this product is terribly designed. If you want to decode digital 5.1 to analog, spend the 20 extra bucks on a more reliable product.

It's was a nice try.
Always has a high pitched squeal and sometimes the audio will cut out for a second or will just completely stop working until I mess with a couple modes. The only reason I give it a 2 star is because the actual eclosure was nice and I will reuse it in another project.

Does what it's supposed to, but audio sometimes desyncs
It properly handles the formats it states it does, and while there is a very slight delay in audio playback compared to a connection using HDMI (only noticeable when using both together), that sort of thing seems unavoidable due to the streaming compression/decompression process. Unfortunately, that delay seems to increase over time, such that after about a half hour or so of usage playing 5.1 audio the sound noticeably lags the video. Cycling the inputs seems to resolve the issue, however.

No RCA outside on this. Must buy separately.
I should have done more research. I also should have payed closer attention. In order to hook this up to my PS4 to make it work for my surround I need to buy more pieces. After shipping and the other parts... is it worth it? No. After a bit more research I have found the audio cutting out thing(due to overheating). The incredibly bright light and with the additional pieces this thing is cumbersome and just not worth it. Should have spent the money for the real one.
