soft thorns Paperback – May 31, 2017

Good material, not a long read. However I did not like the reading

The poetry has depth and emotion... raw at times, but moving. I enjoyed the tugs it did on my feelings and thoughts. I was very impressed. I had stumbled on some bits of this book online, decided to purchase it, and wasn't disappointed in the writing.The one disappointment I had was that the book couldn't be viewed on my Kindle. It appears to be very specifically formatted, and that formatting is not compatible with my e-book. Since I value portability, I needed to use the Kindle Viewer on my phone. A tolerable solution, but not totally satisfying.

I've read some of Bridgett's work on her very popular Instagram account, and I'm a fan, so I was kinda expecting more of the same (which is a good thing). Yet, this book totally ripped my heart open. She really takes you on her personal journey, from the depths of despair, to the heights of bliss and love. You're there, experiencing her raw emotion and huge heart on every single page. It's so beautiful and so beyond my wildest expectations. If you think this is just a compilation of Instagram posts--think again. So much thought, care, design and LOVE went into this book and it oozes through on every page. If you enjoy poetry, or even if you don't but crave the experience of deep feelings--expressed in a beautiful way--this book is for you. Also, be weary of those who don't even have the book saying anything--I actually have a copy as can be seen from my pic.

Let's face it, everyone with a unique look or perspective is selling something nowadays. What I like most about Soft Thorns is that it rises above that fray more than enough to make you feel. It's a journey that I think most people can not only relate to, but perhaps even learn something from. To me, that's exactly why I read poetry, and I'll read more from this author most definitely.

Bridgett is a writer I've gotten the pleasure to have known through social media as I am also a writer and her book is the rawest most beautiful thing I've read in a very long time because I personally related to so much of it. It is a work I respect and acknowledged and wish others will do the same because some do not realize the true courage it takes, as a writer, to put such raw emotion onto paper and this book is PURE HEART in its truest form. Read this and I guarantee you'll want to reach for it again and again. It makes one feel truly connected in the world which, during today's crazy times, is truly a comforting thing. I'm constantly reaching for Soft Thorns to remind my own heart how truly brave it is.

Can't get enough buying them all

I discovered Bridgett on Instagram. With only a few posts of her poems, I knew I had to have her book. I love poetry that has it broken into sections, so you can kind of prepare for what type of poems are coming, hers is just like that. There were several times I had to put the book down and just cry. I related so much to 2 of the sections, scars and aftermath. Break ups are difficult and I turn to poetry to remind me that I am not the only one crying and dying over someone who isn't worth it. This book is for sure in my top 10 poetry books I would reread over and over again.

Bridgett's book is such a beautiful, tragic, and gripping book. She takes you through some very harsh and real experiences that she went through, while taking you through her journey of healing. Her work is so real and raw, showing her genuine heart. Every piece leaves you wanting more. Its an absolute beautiful and heartfelt truth that I encourage everyone to read. It's deep, In your face, not sugar coated reality. I relate to her journey in so many ways. I encourage anyone and everyone to read this, knowing that no matter how dark your struggles may be, or how hard your journey is, there is always hope and healing to be found. Soft Thorns deserves all the stars!!

I absolutely loved this book! I read it in one sitting. "Soft Thorns" mainly deals with love and heartbreak, but also with sexual assault, sexism and hope. A lot of people compare it to "Milk and Honey" by Rupi Kaur and consider "Soft Thorns" a copy (and dislike it for that very reason). While I do see a resemblance, I wouldn't go as far as calling it a copy. The drawing style is very similar and some of the themes are the same. But the poems in "Soft Thorns" aren't quite as heavy and are more about overcoming heartbreak than overcoming sexual assault.

Split into sections, Soft Thorns deals with subjects such as love, passion, healing and pain through short punchy poetry. Written beautifully with a raw yet skilled hand, each poem flows with feeling and honesty. Some poems are accompanied by ink drawings which compliment the words perfectly...overall, an outstanding book.

I appreciate what this woman has been through and so brave of her to share. However as far as poetry does it wasn’t a great read. More like a diary.

Beautiful poetry, a few of the quotes are quite deep.. love Bridgette Devoue. Saw the book on tiktok and had to buy it.
