Oneohtrix Point Never: Replica Vinyl LP

With every album I listen to from Oneohtrix Point Never my immense amount of respect for him continues to grow. As I'll say for all his work, it might not be for everyone, however if you can enjoy abstract musical compositions then this is a must have.

I really dig this record for it's simplicity and diversity. There are some excellent pieces of music and beautiful arrangements. It seems as if the artist just decided to do his own thing in the studio and had no desire to conform to any ideas or concepts and simply created from the heart. We would have much better music if this was the norm.

The music in this album is so good, I originally bought it for the title song Replica, but the whole album is sooo deep and rich with interesting synths. Andro is also a good one, if you like sounds that sound mechanical and dark this is a really good band. Please support the artist! Buy this CD.

This album is somber and brooding. It isn't for everyone, but it is pretty good electronica affair.

Absolutely love this CD...I work out to it all the time. So creative and flowing...the music really stimulates and relaxes you at the same time!

Oneohtrix Point Never are one of my favorite electronica artists to emerge in the last several years. I am immensely interested in his future releases, as what I have managed to listen to up to this point has been quite excellent! This is probably my favorite of his new releases.

One of the best albums of this decade

Oneohtrix Point Never (quel non, qu'est ce que cela signifie?) il faut que j'en parle. Ce disque surtout, Replica, sorti en 2011, presque deux ans avant ce commentaire, mérite bien toutes les louanges parues dans la presse spécialisée (electro ou rock). Pourtant la première écoute est déstabilisante, non pas que la musique de l'américain soit particulièrement difficile d'accès (on y décèle très vite des mélodies ou des bribes de mélodie), mais le foutoir apparent et l'hétérogénéité de cette musique peut perdre l'auditeur tant divers sources musicales presque contradictoires se bousculent au seins d'un même morceau : (drone, synthé, samples très divers, piano...) et où la douceur ambiante est toujours contredite par des effets psychés détonants qui à force d'écoute forment un tout pour constituer une musique vraiment formidable. Le disque passant ainsi d'agréable curiosité en grand classique au fil des écoute, en révélant petit à petit où Daniel Lopatin voulait en venir.Grand disque, on attend avec impatience de voir où nous emmènera le prochain.

Although this is one of my favourite records, the physical condition I received the record in was unacceptable. The label on the B-side of the record was almost falling off and completely bubbled up, and there was a large scuff on the B-side as well.

Also an adventurous soundscape.

Oneohtrix Point Never(ワンオートリックス・ポイント・ネヴァー)はDaniel Lopatin(ダニエル・ロパーティン)という電子／実験音楽家によるソロプロジェクト。所属するレーベルメイトのジョエル・フォードとのFord & Lopatinというユニットでも作品を発表している。本作は、フルアルバムとしては『Returnal』に次ぐ2作目となる。前作『Returnal』は1曲目から砂嵐のようなノイズが飛んでくるが、それ以降は(あえて)ややチープなシンセを中心にしたドローンミュージックという具合だった。今作はそのチープなシンセサウンドを土台に、80〜90年代初期のCMを集めたDVDからサンプリングした素材で構成されている。(100ドルで買ったそうな)シンセの音色の上で、ときに貼り付くようにループし、ときに突拍子もなく飛んでくる、奇妙で薄気味悪い音の数々は闇に引きずり込むようであり、どこかノスタルジックだ。タイトルトラックの Replica と Sleep Dealer の2曲がオフィシャルとしてYoutubeに上がっているのでまずは試聴を。個人的に一番“恐ろしい曲”は Child Solider なんだが…。やや胡散臭いアルバムジャケットだが、鏡に吸い込まれていく内に自分の奥底の汚い部分を見せつけられる本作のそんな不思議な魅力を上手く表現していると思う。
