This was very useful for someone who was not an expert in playing against the Philidor Defence.The format of the book is a board picture and then another board with a picture showing the next possible move. There is not much writing.All of the main versions are covered.A chess book does not have to have a lot of writing to be a good book for a player of my ability between 1860 and 1900.My play against the Philidor Defence has improved significantly since reading this book.
