Just buy it, and thank me later
I've been with amazon for over 7 years now and have never written a review before; this product is so good that I just had too. I honestly picked this product because I have had an interest in cold brewing, love the Kitchen Aid brand, and loved the design of this product. It looks better in person than in these photos (something that almost never happens), and it feels very solid. You can tell this is just good quality once you open the box. It is a very simple process, fill the filter thingy up with 250g of coffee grounds (I just eyeballed it because they have a fill line to give you an idea of where you should stop pouring, in case [like me] you don't have a digital scale in your kitchen), coarse grounds are what you want to use, but I didn't have any in the house and just used my fine grounds. You let it brew in cold water in your refrigerator or on the counter in room temp (I went with cold water + the fridge) for 12 to 24 hours (the longer it brews the stronger/more bitter it will get); I went with 15 hours. Then you remove the filter thingy and you can begin drinking your coffee. I like it black, so I pour my cup (already filled with ice) a third of the way up with the coffee concentrate you brew from this cold brewer and the rest of the cup with water, stir and enjoy. It is easy to clean, looks great, holds a large amount of coffee in a small amount of space, and I love how nicely it fits on the shelf of the fridge, as if it was always meant to be there. If you are thinking about buying this, stop thinking about it and do it. This thing is the greatest thing for coffee lovers since the discovery of the bean.

Will Pay For Itself In 1-2 Months
Honestly bro, to say that we are coffee people would be an understatement. For the longest time though, we thought there was no better cold brew than the one from our local coffee shop - boy were we wrong. We'd tried several other cold brew coffee "makers" and the all had issues that significantly affected the taste of the coffee they produced, so we eventually went back to our rather expensive habit. A few weeks ago, we saw an ad for this KitchenAid cold brew coffee maker and decided to get back into the fray of at-home coffee making. Right off the bat, this cold brew coffee maker is sturdy and well-built - at least on the outside. The glass is quite heavy duty so it can withstand the occasional bump, and the brushed stainless steel details make it really nice to look at. But, where this baby really shines is in the product that results. What you really pay for when you buy cold brew coffee makers like this one is the coffee filter itself. The better the quality of the "mesh," the better tasting your coffee will be. With previous items, we've had to add an additional filtration step using cheesecloth to get some of the grinds out of the coffee, but with this KitchenAid, the holes in the metal coffee filter are so small, that very little filters out into the actual coffee liquid. The result is, in our opinion, some of the best cold brew coffee outside of any coffee shop. Sure, the price tag is a little high (we got ours when it was on sale, so it cost around $90), but with a 28oz carafe, this is enough quality coffee to replace 6 coffees from the coffee shop each week. If you do the math, you're saving $25-30 bucks a week and can make about 6 weeks worth of coffee from a single bag of ground coffee, so this baby really can pay for itself in 1-2 months. The biggest drawbacks, and they are minimal, would be that for us, the 28oz version is a little small (but the 48oz version was over $150 and we couldn't justify spending that much), in addition, the mesh filter itself is quite delicate, so you have to be very careful when washing, drying, and storing it. Overall though, again for us, this has so far been worth the price. We are starting week 3 today and so far, have really enjoyed the flavor of the coffee our KitchenAid makes, the look of the item itself, and the fact that we haven't gone out for coffee for two weeks.

Don't loose the washer!
This is easy to use, easy to clean (just rinse it out), and makes great tasting coffee. Some of the reviews say that the unit leaks. There is a washer that goes in the "plug" to stop the leaking. Ours was lost when we took it completely apart to clean it and it started leaking when we put it back together without the washer. If you look up the part, Kitchen Aid wants $30+ for the washer, but you can bring the plug to your Handyman Hardware or other friendly hardware store and they can help you find a regular replacement for a few dollars. I happened to have the correct size washer on a rolling pin. The original washer was flat, but this one was round...it worked fine. No more leaking! So if you have a leak, you just need to get a new washer. As for the coffee...I love this because I can get regular ol' cheap coffee and it tastes great! It takes a lot of coffee, but I can spend $3 for a bag of whatever at Aldi and it makes about 10 cups of rich coffee. Even though it is "cold brew," I still warm up each cup once it is diluted. This makes a kind of coffee syrup that you dilute with water or milk to get to the concentration you like. It is a great size. It fits into the odd space in our fridge under the meat drawer. And the spigot is sturdy so it holds up when you inevitably pull it to move the unit far enough from the shelf so you can fill up one mug right in the fridge. I fill it up Friday morning and it gives us coffee all weekend. It is part of our relaxing weekend ritual.

Quality and Brew
I know there are less expensive cold brew coffee makers available and this is the first unit I have ever purchased to make cold brew coffee. Still, the quality of this simple device is immediately obvious from the moment you start unpacking it. This is a very well constructed unit, easy to clean, and it takes very little space in your refrigerator. I have made, and begun to drink, my first cold brew coffee. I used Stone Street Coffee Cold Brew Reserve Colombian Single Origin Coarsely Ground Coffee and followed the Kitchenaid instructions exactly. I let the coffee steep in my refrigerator (yes, in the refrigerator, not on the counter) for 23 hours because I just couldn't wait any longer. The cold brew is absolutely outstanding!! I really like the Starbucks cold brew and thought it might be tough to match it. But this is a breeze and easily rivals the Starbucks coffee. I did buy other coffees and will post comments as I try them. For now though, my first brew with this coffee came out perfectly. Rich, smooth, loaded with flavor. If you are thinking about trying to make your own cold brew at home you won't go wrong starting off with this brewer and the Stone Cold coffee grind. Make your purchase and in no time you'll be enjoying great coffee.

LEAKS
Let me save you some money. I’m a professional chef and I make my own coffee. In a separate Cambro, not this device. I only pour the coffee in here. My first order? I was very pleased with, it worked great for about 2 months, zero issues. I saw the leaking reviews and thought “What’s everyone talking about? This is great!” Then the first leak began. I put the KitchenAid in our fridge overnight and it leaked ruining so many other ingredients. Aside from the cost, it was a mess to clean up. I did all the reviews of cleaning and gasket placement, never mattered. Leaks were constant. I reached out to KitchenAid and they sent me a newer model guaranteeing the leak issue had been fixed. Worked fine the first brew but leaked 2 days later, ruining more ingredients, costing more than the device and creating the same mess. Now I use glass bottles from IKEA and a funnel for our cold brew for under $20. !!DO NOT BUY!!

Great cold brew but a bit over priced
There are a bunch of cold brew products out there but there are a few that stand out from the rest. I went back and forth on several brands but ultimately settled on the kitchen aid as it just ticked all the boxes. I has a sleek look and fits absolutely perfect in my fridge. One of the things I like most about it is that I can simply open the fridge, put a glass under the spout and fill it up. I don't need to take a container out and pour, I don't need to unscrew anything, I just turn the spout on, fill my cup and turn the spout off. I know, first world problems right? Brewing: So I know that cold brew is supposed to be done with coarse grounds but frankly I'm too lazy to buy whole beans and grind them coarsely for cold brew so I just use standard pre-ground coffee. With this method I just open up the pack, dump it into the filter, fill 1/2 way with water, let it bloom and then fill the rest of the way. Let it brew for 24 hours, pull the filter and start enjoying cold brew. The filter on this is super fine which helps filter out the "sludge" that you might get with using regular grounds but honestly during the brew process most of that settles to the bottom and with the help of the textured glass bottom, it stays there without making it's way into your cup. Cleaning: Something I think that gets overlooked on coffee makers is the cleaning. This thing is super easy to clean. The big open top makes it super easy to reach into with your sponge in hand and scrub. The spout and "plumbing" can also be removed and taken apart if you want to do a full cleaning of every part that coffee touches. Issues: None here at all after around 3 months of use. There were some complaints about the spout leaking or some kind of leaking going on somewhere, I have not had any of those problems. Overall: Great choice for delicious cold brew coffee but with the unfortunate Kitchen-Aid premium price tag.

KitchenAid KCM4212SX Cold Brew Coffee Maker
We ordered a refurbished KitchenAid KCM4212SX for substantially less money and it recently arrived in perfect condition as far as I could tell. A rep from Amazon told some years ago that refurbished were still warranted by Amazon and often just the packaging was damaged. In this case, it was factory refurbished and was in excellent condition. As a retired mechanical engineer, I can truly appreciate the ergonomics that went into the design. It’s a tremendous design and simple to use. I will be making cold brew tea more often than not while my wife will undoubtably be making cold brew coffee. The concentrate ratio for tea leaves is substantially greater than the coffee ratio but both are significant. I completely took the unit apart today to clean it and get a better understanding of how the unit works. It shines with quality and weight and is easy to operate. Some thinking definitely went into its design. The plastic wrench doubles as a plastic nut to hold the drain and after that is removed along with the hose it has another wrench at its end to fit the plastic nut that holds the valve. The valve is sturdy and is also of high quality in my opinion. I’ve looked up the chemistry behind cold brewing and I do recommend that you do the same. The taste of cold brew is amazing if you have never had it before. I recommend that you use filtered water and heat the water enough to dissolve your sugar ahead of time so as to get it into solution. You can then throw in some ice that was made with the filtered water to cool it down. You would only do this if you knew exactly how your going to like it based on the ratios. As I recall, the concentrate coffee ratio is 3 to 1 and the tea leaves is 7 to 1. Once you get comfortable using the device, I think you will be keeping your concentrate readily available. The amounts are given by weight which can be estimated with the lines on the unit. We are fortunate to have a very nice high end scale. More and more I seem to be finding recipes that specify amounts by weight in grams. Again, once you have made a batch of one or the other, I think the lines will suffice.

Ice Coffee Maker
We just purchased this product, it was fantastic for the first 30 min after the brew, then it leaked all over our fridge. Awesome. Checking the reviews a little more thoroughly we discovered a trend of these with a same issue. The coffee was great before the leak do 5 stars if you get one that works.
