An interesting and intriguing story for young and old~
Lela Rast Hartsaw made it possible to educate and entertain at the same time! I thought it was a unique way to bring the history to "life" through Abigail Rose. This will appeal to all ages. The study guide and bonus material add to the charm of the book, and I admit I learned a thing or two! I enjoyed the story and found myself anxious to see where Abigail Rose's next adventure leads her.Peggy Duke-Lindgren

This is a great historic read!
What a delightful read for the young reader and anyone who loves historic fiction! I love the whole premise of Abigail Rose and the way the author uses her role in connecting to the reader. Here's hoping that the sales of this book help in the upkeep of this home that has become a local museum in Florida. I look forward to another great "read" from Lela Hartsaw!

I can't wait to read The Adventures of Abigail Rose to my granddaughter! (When she visits, one of our favorite activities is to read a book that "Grandma Connie" has provided.)The Adventures of Abigail Rose is delightful. The fact that it is historical fiction set in my home state of Florida adds to its appeal. What a clever way to insert this porcelain doll into a story that takes place in hurricane prone Florida. This beautiful doll was a birthday gift for a wealthy man who lived in Manatee, Florida. Telling the story from the first person viewpoint of the doll adds to the tale of Abigail Rose as she endures existing in the outside during an unexpected hurricane. The title of the book indicates that there are further adventures for Abigail Rose and I will not reveal too much. The author's love of history is obvious. I especially enjoyed the sections in the back which included appropriate vocabulary as well as chapter questions. What an asset for a classroom teacher who would want to use this book in a class.

Great Read!
I may be biased because I know the author, but I think this story is creative and engaging for readers of any age. The extra materials included, like the extensive Epilogue, Glossary, and Study Guide, make this book useful as a storybook as well as a classroom textbook. I'm a grown man, but I found the book's perspective—that of a girl's doll—to be highly effective and intriguing. I think boys and girls both will enjoy this book and not even realize they are being taught a history lesson at the same time.

I love "going there" with this author
I have read this book twice, and plan on reading it again! I love "going there" with this author...because when you are reading it, it's Florida, it's the Civil War, and believe it or not, you become the doll that got lost in a Hurricane! I , like the first reviewer, know this author, but even so, would not be writing this and recommending this book if I truly did not believe that you will be entertained , enlightened and glad that you read it. (And you'll want to read it again!)

Engaging and easy to read!
Just finished this and loved it! The story is engaging and filled with facts about early life in Florida. With a hook at the end of each chapter, this easy to read book with pictures should interest kids and adults, and all of the recipes and other bonus material in the back is like icing on the cake!
